I know this was 10 years ago now but when I built my PC I had a budget of £600 which I felt was pretty good for a gaming PC. Nowhere near the best but not terrible. Now with inflation and lets say a budget of £800 it seems a decent graphics card is pretty much out of the question.

What's going to happen to the value of bitcoin once they're all mined? I don't understand what's backing the actual value of the currency.
Is that even a sensible question or again am I missing someone really obvious?
To me it just seems like a made up currency (via some funky coding to make it look a bit complicated) that people have just for some reason decided is worth loads and when it all get's mined will become worthless once people realise it's all a pile of bollocks.

Please feel free to mock me if I am completely missing the point.

Is this another Poppy crash in the making?

The intent is that the value would go up, as the supply decreases. This is done on purpose to be in contrast to currency today where governments can just print as much as they want and cause inflation, like what happened in Germany after WWI or more recently in Zimbabwe.

It is a made up currency, but all currency is basically just made up. Gold has no real value outside of jewellery and some engineering applications, our actual money is just paper.

At the end of the day, if someone is willing to exchange a product or labour for your currency it's legitimate. One of the best comparisons I can make is probably to poker chips. Let's say you were some Chinese politician who wanted to move a large amount of your totally not stolen money from China to a safer place, like the USA. You could go into an MGM casino in Macau, convert your millions which might take up a few briefcases into a few hand fulls of poker chips and then fly to Las Vegas walk into the MGM grand and exchange your chips there back to real currency. The chips themselves are worthless plastic, but they become valuable because they make it easy to move money around discretely, and because they can be converted back to real money easily. Same thing with bitcoins

Bitcoin and other crypto currencies were designed to get around a few issues that exist with modern currency and banking, but may not have actually solved these problems.

- Cost: Sending money from one place to another is very expensive if you are doing it with real money. In ye old times when you had to hire armed guards to prevent the likes of Jack Sparrow and other pirates from stealing your gold that made sense, not so much when it's just a bunch of code moving from one banks computer to another. Bitcoin was supposed to be cheaper, although now that there are so many people using it fees for transactions seem to be skyrocketing.

- Privacy: It's supposed to be like a virtual version of cash, preventing banks or other organizations being able to know every detail about how you spend your money, something that seemed more and more likely with the idea that currency would become digital only. This is both good and bad, because it, like cash, also makes bitcoins attractive to criminals and people who want to evade taxes or move large amounts of funds off shore.

- Manipulation: Because there is a fixed supply of the coins and more can't be created it means your coins should (in theory) never loose value like cash due to inflation.

Right now, bitcoin is hyper inflated, it started off as this ideal of having a currency you could use freely, and have trust in as it's free from manipulation, but it got taken up by criminals selling drugs and other crap, and is now being speculated on massively. It's been totally perverted from it's original intention, or at least the stated intention behind it.

In other news, I got another steam trading card, and thought I'd look through to see how much some of these are worth...

$2! All my other ones are from $0.10 to $0.25, is this thing rare?

Yeah it's a foil. I've only ever had one foil card out of hundreds.

Steam cards aren't worth it anymore. To sell them you have to manually approve every single sale via the Steam app first and I can't be arsed with that bollocks.
I just use the app for 2FA

shows it's remarkably easy to spend way over £300 or even the £450 launch price of a One X just on a graphics card without buying something super silly.
A PC is more expensive that an Xbox 1X upfront, but due to the cost of games, over the life of the two the X1 will be more expensive. PC has the benefit of being usable for Office too.

I didn't want to get into that I was simply comparing prices and how so many cards are now extremely expensive. The 1080 is a well known card but has become what I would call crazily expensive.

Nope, very few new coins are mined now, but there are fees for sending BTC the miners are processing the transactions and get the fee.

Yeah, smartphones have basically driven RAM prices through the roof as well.

A few companies are starting to release dedicated Bitcoin mining chips now though that are way more efficient than GPUs as the chips are designed to do literally nothing but bitcoin mining, so when those start hitting the market then it should help the situation.

These already exist, and have exited for years they're called ASIC miners...

Yes, and they've already mined 16 Million of the 21 Million total.

The news that now Samsung is going to start making ASIC chips as well won't do anything to bring the price of the video cards down because the increase is driven by Etherium mining, not Bitcoin. Etherium is designed to be ASIC resistant because it relies on the use of VRAM to be mined, this is done to keep the currency decentralized, which was one of Bitcoins main ideas but after the advent of ASIC miners the majority of the coins are now held by a few companies that build these chips and sell part of their production and use the rest to mine bitcoins.

The prices are totally insane though, I can't imagine there are that many people actually buying graphics cards for mining rigs that they would actually drive the prices up, it's just sellers now thinking they can charge more for their cards because there is a perceived shortage.

Look at this chart...

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ethere ... 34928.html

My card, a 1060GTX was $250 when it was new, it's now $500! I could probably sell my used one and make a profit on it!

Yeah crazy to think my card is almost the same price as a OneX :slol: and mines over a year old now.

My ram is now worth about £500. I reckon I could sell my whole pc and buy a house.

I wish there was a way to walk silently in PUBG like you can in CS. You just can't get the drop on anyone because they hear you coming up on them from a mile off.

Doesn't Ctrl make you walk quieter, or moving while aiming? It's not silent but it's better than nothing. I'm not sure if it actually works but if I'm holed up in a house trying to ambush someone, I'll keep tapping whichever movement key I want to use, it seems to not make as much noise.

I've actually found that avoiding stealth and just going mental works out more often than not. My mate died in duos once so assuming I'd get killed with other teams against me on my own, I just ran out in the open and sprayed my uzi at anything that moved. It was one of the four games I've won.

Has anyone else been having issues with getting Shadowplay to record? I have instant replay turned on and I've double checked the hotkeys haven't changed but it won't save any videos when I use them.

The hotkeys seem totally borked when you use certain keys in the combination. I finally settled on a button combo for Siege but it only seemed to activate when I was in the menus. That, combined with the fact that I always forget to save the clips I just opted to record the whole session. So much easier.

I've just reinstalled Experience and will check if it works tomorrow, ta.

I have a spare steam code for the full first season of Life is Strange, if anybody wants it.

EDIT: GONE

I just had a thought, given the outrageous prices of GPU's now, I wonder if getting a pre-built gaming PC is for once actually a reasonable option in terms of price.

Like this one...

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=118305

Is slightly worse than the excellent category on Logical increments, http://www.logicalincrements.com/ for about $200 more, but the problem is there is no where that actually has a 1070 in stock for the price listed on LI.

Sort yourself out, LI. God.

If nowhere has the 1070 in stock for that price, then that pre-built PC might indeed be worth a shot.
