You have to use the dongle.

The Steam Link has the receiver built into the Link itself so you don't need it if you're streaming via one. You can switch between the Link and the dongle on another PC by holding A when you turn on the controller. This makes it really easy for me to use my Steam controller on my PC and Link :toot:

Well now I don't know what to believe. I guess it's onto the wishlist with both of them and wait for a sale.

"Today only" being the furniture shop sale definition of "today only"

Alright, it's currently just on sale for today, but may also go on sale again at some point or several at an unspecified time in the future.

Question about downloading from Steam - is it always gooseberry fool performance or are there certain times when it runs properly? Yesterday I was getting 10mb/s and my connection speed was 35mb/s. Today my connection speed has been increased to 65mb/s but download from Steam is only 2.7 Mb/s. WTF is going on? To make matters worse, if I do a speedtest whilst Steam is downloading, my download speed drops by 20mb/s, but this is only converting to a poxy 2.7 mb/s from Steam. Are there any settings like "Don't steal my connection speed" and "Give me the strawberry floating download speed I'm paying for"?

Yes?

If your download speed was 20Mb/s then Steam would download at approximately 2.0MB/s (ISPs advertise speed in Megabits, but things like Steam and Windows download speeds measure in MegaBytes)

What do you get from Speedtest if you aren't running Steam? I usually get around 20MB/s download speeds from Steam and my connection speed is 200Mb/s.
For a down speed of 65Ms/s you should get around 6-6.5MB/s download from Steam

Ok. If it is Megabytes rather than bits, that partially explains it.

Yes?

Laga being lazy and diving by 10 instead of 8 reminds me about an odd thing I heard or read the other day about the way drive space is advertised. In the past it's mostly been counted in base 2, so 1024 meg to a gig. Apparently it's getting more prevalent for base 10 to be used on the capacity advertised, meaning once you attach it to common OS like windows you're going to lose just a bit in translation.

I have been playing Osiris: New Dawn and it seems to be scratching my survival game itch. Given time I think this will be a pretty good base building multiplayer game.

I picked up the Skyrim DLC this weekend to make sure I get the new edition for free. I'm going to play a few hours of Vanilla, then compare with the remaster, and then mod up the original and pick which will be the one I finally play this game through with.

I wiped my existing install, then downloaded it all afresh. It's surprising how well the vanilla version actually holds up. Looks and runs great. Check it out.

I know Bethesda can't code for gooseberry fool but I thought it would have been more stable on PC than consoles!

When I go to build a PC, this doesn't fill me with confidence :(

The physics in Beth games is tied to fps, crashes like that are caused by having a crazy high fps and no vsync or limit on. So the problem is basically from the pc being too good for the game

If you unlock framerate Skyrim goes a bit crazy. I had a bug forever in that game that took me ages to pinpoint.

Anytime I went to an indoor cell there was constant rattling and banging. What was happening is that the framerate was twice the polling rate of the physics engine so anything on a shelf or table was adjusting its position faster than it should have, so it all vibrated, creating a banging sound twice a second (or so).

Horses can't hold their drink.

But actually, like others have said:

It's a critical flaw in how their engine is designed in that they either didn't care about or didn't test on machines that can run their stuff over 60fps.

What a strawberry floating joke. Did that horse actually die because of a collision so strong it killed it?

Steam are doing a weird robot themed sale: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/fellow_humans/

Think I'll finally grab Binary Domain, as it seems like everyone else already owns it.

I'm tempted by Soma, but nearly £10 is still a bit dear, for me.
