You've reminded me that i wanted to try the London Assassin's Creed so I'll wait for the Steam Christmas sale to pick that up and play it instead. I don't want to burn out on Creed so this is probably a better choice :toot:

Syndicate is far better than III. Need to go back to that actually. I've been playing it on and off for about two months now.

I got it free with a graphics card at work. I couldn't get into it.

I thought 3 was pretty good, but then i am an AC fanboy. It concluded the desmond story arc in an interesting way, the open world was quite the change from the city-based games before and the story is the cornerstone for what happens in the non-linear narrative of the Americas arc: Black Flag, Liberation, Rogue and even tangentially into Unity. Also Haytham Kenway was one of the most interesting antagonists the series has ever had.

I played through 3 as part of a broader catching up with AC so i didn't hang around to do collectables or side activities as they were all largely tautological. I bought a slightly better sword and never felt the need to buy anything else.

If you care about the broader narrative arcs of AC then 3 is quite an important one, but if you're in the "get rid of the modern stuff, historical settings only" camp then its totally skippable when compared to the likes of Black Flag

3 is the worst of the series, it's just so boring and the characters are so uninteresting. Just read up on the modern day parts or watch cutscenes on YouTube if you're interested, the game isn't worth the time of effort.

4 was way better because you could relatively quickly abandon the plot and just be a mummy strawberry floating pirate.

The worst part is that it starts with an actually interesting premise and main character, then totally abandons it for the sake of a rubbish twist less than an hour into the game.

I'm genuinely surprised to hear that there is a worse Ass Creed game than the first one.

The original isn't too bad actually. Played through it about three years ago and while it does get really repetitive it was a decent enough first attempt. The foundations for the series are laid down and it just took the second game to really refine the systems and take off the rough edges. It's not one I think I could ever go back to now though, having played most of the games since then. III is just another world of gooseberry fool though. It's really rough in places and I couldn't bring myself to get through it.

I remember playing the first when it came out. I got so bored so quickly, I barely got through more than a handful of missions.

I really liked the first game, the assassination targets were the best in the game, ever since you had shitty set pieces and scripted gooseberry fool get in the way, where as in 1 you could kill them.how you wanted.

Same here. Played 1 and 2 back to back over Christmas '09 (or whenever it was that the second one came out) and massively preferred the first game. It felt like a good attempt at trying to do an assassination game, I liked the freedom of approach that you were given and the more streamlined toolset felt like it could be put to better use than that of the sequel.

The second game became too scripted and limiting in how you could approach targets, I remember an early part where I knew which building my target was in so I spent a good deal of team taking out all the guards around that area stealthily before moving in closer to take out the main target, only for the game to go into a cut scene and then respawn everyone! Can't be dealing with that kind of gooseberry fool.

The first one definitely was the best in terms of giving you options of how to take out a target. They could easily have taken it down more of a Hitman style route if they'd continued like that.

I do think II is the better game overall though.

Valve having slapdash processes for customers? I'm shocked.
