Doom is well worth a £15 asking price. It's worth twice that asking price for the single player campaign alone.

There's a few things on wishlist that I'd like. Dark Souls 3 (I think I could run this), the Final Fantasy ports etc.

Unfortunately I've been picking up some PC games for just a few quid so now I'm in the mindset of that is all I want to pay. They have no resale value so for me, they need to be comparable to the cost of buying a PS4 game and selling it on to somewhere like CEX on completion.

CEX currently gives £10 voucher for Doom and as I can get it for £15 new, buying and then selling basically costs me a fiver. Buying for £15 on the PC seems like a waste of £10.

But that's doing it wrong. You keep all your games forming a massive horde of of shame until you eventually break down having to use some aleatoric system and panic for 1hr hour deciding what game to play. Then you buy more and the sordid cycle continues. Forever.

Then steam shuts down / you die.

That was me in the old days of console gaming. I used to buy a SNES game every other week or so and when I came to buying a PS3 I traded in a shitload of GC and XBOX games that were still sealed. It has taken me about 20 years to realise that there is no point buying loads of games when I have such little time to play them.

But then you're a fiver down and you no longer have Doom. At least steam has filters to see everything under £3/7 so you can stick to that i guess; but there are often bundles/deals on way more expensive games that float just above that arbitrary cutoff point.

I don't play games more than once so not really bothered by not having a game once completed.

I've got an itch for a certain type of game, and I'm looking for recommendations. I'm looking for a real time strategy game where you build a city and an economy through the ages, researching more things over time. Kind of like civ in real time meets simcity and command and conquer, but not based on combat? I got anno 2070 in a sale the other day for a fiver, but wondering what else people can recommend.

Just a reminder 2011 was when the Steam sales were amazing, a true event, fun, games, and prizes. Sadly people abused it in the winter 2011 sale to win all the prizes, and they never put the effort in again :(

Now you will get a few cards each day that you can sell and make a couple of quid over the sale, no fun allowed :( They made some half hearted attempts over the past few years but nothing has come close to the 2011 sales.

i quite like Age of Empires 2 - if you put it on the largest map with AI on easy you can have a pleasant time.

one of the Settler's games might be a good bet; although there are so many of them i dont know which particular one is best to recommend

Settlers VI was my favourite of the ones I played in the series, 7 played around with the mechanics and that took away from some of the fun I found.

Can anyone remind me of the name of that recent Rhythm game that looks like it is set in some nightmarish type world? I believe it is on PS4 and PC, but can't see how much it costs as I can't remember what it is called!

Yes?
