FFS, haven't they got better things to 'hack' than Steam.

I think I read an article on a tech news site the other day, suggesting it only costs maybe a few hundred to a thousand pounds to rent (for a day) a large enough network of hacked PCs and laptops ('botnet') to put real pressure on most websites and web services.

Which makes these escapades even less impressive than they already were.

And they persist in trying to pass off DDOS attacjs as a 'hack'. Then again so do the media so it doesn't exactly help.

I'm looking forward to the news reports in a few weeks along the lines of "several young men were arrested in connection with the December DDoS attacks against online gaming services. The defendents were all described as quiet individuals who kept to themselves etc. etc...and have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each."

I've been meaning to pick them up for a while so I decided to grab them just in case Activision's licences for Transformers expire at the end of the calendar year like they did for Deadpool a year or two ago.

The sale has been more enjoyable than I expected, regardless of today's purchases, thanks to the Steam awards. Checking in to vote each day is much more enjoyable than clicking through a Discovery Queue, though that can be beneficial as it has led to a couple of additions to my wishlist. Voting is one of the things that I miss about the change from the old style of Steam sale to the new one so hopefully it's here to stay :toot:

So, thinking about the Steam controller. Not sure if I will like this due to the mixed reviews, but have £20 of Steam credit so assuming I can use this towards it, will only cost £7.99. Before I stump up the cash, what kind of games is this best suited to or can it be used for all games?

Yes?

Bear in mind there's £7.40 p&p on it, too.

That is a bit crap, cheaper buying from Game. The whole Steam thing is a bit gooseberry fool, always seems cheaper to buy keys and hardware elsewhere. Just hope the £20 credit I got for Christmas won't expire.

Most of the games I've been after in the current sale are cheaper on Steam than anywhere else, so not that gooseberry fool.

I've just pulled the trigger on a CPU upgrade. My current CPU is a Pentium G (a dual core 3Ghz with a passmark rating of 3,170). I've gone for a Xeon E3-1231 (quad core 3.4Ghz, turbo speed 3.8Ghz and passmark rating of 9,631). My PC is a bit limited due to the Dell proprietary power supply so I only have a 750ti GPU, but hoping this is going to give me enough oomph to play all games on full at 1080p (had to run Dead Rising 3 at 720p on medium settings and this was still a bit of a struggle at times).

The GPU will still be a bottleneck no matter how powerful the CPU is.

Is there any particular reason why you're limited to the Dell power supply? is the case really slim or something like that?

I don't know the exact reason, but heard it is difficult to change. I was hoping to get a significant performance upgrade from the CPU at games running at 1080p. Do you not think I'll see a decent improvement? I can always return it to Amazon if I don't see a good improvement.

On a separate topic, what determines when you get Steam items? When playing DR3 I received a message saying I received new items during the first couple of chapters but received nothing further even when finishing the game.
