Why's that then?

I use a mouse pad I got from Max Spielman with a family pic on it. Not a K&M gamer so not fussed over a fancy mouse mat/pad.

because i've wasted my life on the computer rather than out kissing girls

kissing girls is overrated
that's what i've been told, anyway

Almost certainly irrelevant to anyone in here right now but MS have issued a few details about Windows 10 on ARM is different to x86
64-bit apps will not work. Yes, Windows 10 on ARM can run Windows desktop applications. But it can only run 32-bit (x86) desktop applications, not 64-bit (x64) applications. (The documentation doesn’t note this, but support for x64 apps is planned for a future release.)

It cannot use x86 drivers. While Windows 10 on ARM can run x86 Windows applications, it cannot utilize x86 drivers. Instead, it will require native ARM64 drivers instead. This means that hardware support will be much more limited than is the case with mainstream Windows 10 versions. In other words, it will likely work much like Windows 10 S does today.

Older games and graphics apps may not work. Windows 10 on ARM supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 11, and DirectX 12, but apps/games that target older versions will not work. Apps that require hardware-accelerated OpenGL will also not work.

I'm sure we'll see plenty of benchamrks once these things hit the market but those seem like the most gaming relevant limitations.

Playing Alan Wake finally on PC. Narrative seems great, some annoying (failing to trigger) events, unfair deaths and just plain blind alleys though. Also, on an old cpu/hard disk the load times are just ridiculous .

Can run it over 720p (I'm playing on an HDTV with dualshock 3 so this doesn't matter) with all effects on at least mid (including god rays and SSAO) on hardware over 10 years old though, so it's certainly a good port worth 90p.

Edit: you can add context sensitive actions that disappear to that list. But I didn't expect much when I loaded the game and the ground was missing.

"B" to leave the ferry just vaporised. Had to reload, rewatch some wittering dialogue and wait to leave again. And look, another load screen after what was probably a 3 minute segment? Jesus.

I think I want to enjoy this game so hopefully there aren't too many grating moments like that.

I've played through Alan Wake on the PC recently and didn't experience what you are describing. What events do you think failed to trigger?

Yes?

When running "towards the light" after the cabin sequence, 3 or 4 times just nothing happens all around the extremities of bushes etc (where the ammo is) and the gate, which is the only exit. That just stays shut, and you can't see gooseberry fool, which is quite frustrating. Reload, go to the same places and the shadow guy appears, you get the torch and gun beamed down in that bloody awkward sequence with the disembodied voice. A pretty bad example of gating, I mean you need to get your trigger points and invisible walls etc dead right in that situation or you have a captive player wondering what the strawberry float to do.

And when arriving on the ferry. You're asked to get back to the car, and the prompt just disappears. I literally spent 10 minutes looking around all 3 cars on all sides for a "get in car" prompt or whatever but there was nothing. Reload, sit through dialogue again and there it is, "leave ferry".

The game seems to have trouble triggering stuff if you don't do things as expected.

It's probably worth bearing in mind my CPU is an Athlon X2 with a much newer GPU (still old core mind), so I may be missing some instruction sets or whatever. But it's an old game too, well above Xbox 360 standard. I have it running at 30fps at least over 720p with god rays and SSAO etc enabled so I can't imagine that's the problem.

I had weird gooseberry fool with Borderlands on that cpu too but mostly crashes, not bugs.

I did read that really slow load times can be fixed by verifying game cache, which might also explain the missing ground when I first booted up the game. So I'll try that.

Never finished Alan Wake on PC but put a good few hours in and never experienced the bugs you've experienced and that was playing on my now dead laptop which had a 670m/12GB Ram/i7 and my current machine which is 1060 6GB/16GB Ram/i5. With everything cranked up it looks great for an old game.

I'm assuming that this is a strategy game of some description, but anyway, Warhammer 40k fans may be interested in the upcoming game, Mechanicus:

About
Your every decision will shape the missions ahead and ultimately decide the fate of the troops under your command. However, choose your path carefully - the Imperium depends on it.

Take control of one of the most technologically advanced armies in the Imperium - The Adeptus Mechanicus. As Magos Dominus Faustinius, you’ll lead the expedition on the newly rediscovered planet of Silva Tenebris. Manage resources, discover long-forgotten tech, plan tactical operations using the Noosphere technology and control your Tech-Priests every move.

Augment
Flesh is weak! Upgrade your Tech-Priests limbs with mechanical augments made from the blessed metals of the Omnissiah. Customize your team with hundreds of possibilities, creating a squad to suit your playstyle.

The Noosphere
Use the Adeptus Mechanicus’ evolved human cognition to scan unexplored tombs for valuable data in order to gain a tactical advantage over your enemy.

Difficult Decisions
Make tough decisions that will forge the future from your Ark Mechanicus, The Caestus Metalican, and send you towards alternate endings for a truly unique playthrough.

The Library
A compelling story written by Black Library author, Ben Counter, specifically crafted to fit the unique personality of the Adeptus Mechanicus faction.

The last 40k game, Inquisitor, wasn't very well received IIRC, and there's no gameplay of this yet, but I do like the idea of exploring the Mechanicus more.

I preferred the first DoW even though I'm gooseberry fool at base building in RTS games. But I did love 2. I should go back and play it again.

Agreed. Think its crazy to prefer dow2 to the original imo. However apprecoate they are diffwrent types if game.

The original Dow with it's 3 expansions is awesome. Such a shame they never made DOW3.

SUCH A SHAME.

Is 3 worth getting if you don't care about online play? I'm a "play it for the singleplayer campaign" kind of gamer, but all the complaints seemed to revolve around online stuff, and incomprehensible acronyms. MOOP? MOOG? ABZORG? Something like that.

Battlefleet Gothic Armada was pretty good, but like Space Marine it got pretty repetitive.

Has anyone successfully installed No One Lives Forever on Windows 7?

I downloaded an installer and the patches last night and it all seemed to install correctly but whenever I tried to start the game, literally nothing happened. I'd double click the shortcut and nothing would happen.

I Googled the issue and couldn't find any fixes. I'm super in the mood to play it though so I'm gonna try again tomorrow maybe.

It's one of my all time favourite games.

I've found with some older PC games that it can be easier to emulate the ps2 version if there is one than to get it working natively on a modern OS.

Have you tried enabling XP Sp3 compat mode and allowing it to run as admin? Some older games start working with that.

Hell yes, No One Lives Forever runs! I just had to install a no CD patch for it to work. Weird. But I'm so happy.

Anyone use the likes of System Mechanic on their PC? I had been using one I got with a Humble Bundle from last year which ran out the other day and with playing The Division none stop on my PC I noticed a big difference since uninstalling it. My CPU would max out at 100% and the game would either drop to 10fps and I couldn't do gooseberry fool bar use task manager to force close the game or it would just ctd. Ended up using a code from Techradar which got me another year for less than £15 rather than the £50 they wanted and hey ho no problems playing The Division last night. And it wasn't a Driver problem as I used DDU to perform a clean Nvidia driver install the other day to rule that out.
