Picture quality is only one factor though, my understanding is that some of the consoles are ridiculously loud even when just playing a blu ray?

I'd rather silently stream a "good-enough" HD encoding of something than watch a beautiful blu ray whilst having to listen to something that sounds like an aircraft taking off in my living room!

For me it's actually quite handy, as i enjoy the movies much more when i watch them in two halves.

My PS4 (Original White version) is extremely loud, it would be unusable to watch a film and is still very annoying gaming, I only use it to play the odd exclusive such as The Last of Us, Uncharted etc

My Xbox One was a little noisy while playing blu rays but my Xbox One S and Xbox One X are silent

I had both films on a single VHS tape, and for some reason, there was a random episode of Adam West era Batman sandwiched between them. :|

Everything is better with Adam West era batman.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Some days, you just can't get rid of an Adam West reference.

Thing is, right, people and legends like me have a huge soft spot for VHS, and it's true that DVD was one of the biggest and most necessary jumps in technology in recent memory. Yes, with VHS the sound was a bit cack and there was tracking issues, but the thing is, it helped make the movie experience

Consider cinema. 24fps, grainy, but it's THE cinema experience. 4k 60fps at the pictures would just be weird. That's why mans like me who grew up with VHS have such a soft spot for it. It's part of the experience. I think part of it, also, is the advance of technology alongside cinema. A big movie release is very rarely an "event" anymore like it used to be. Huge movies, with some exceptions, are quickly forgotten in the age of the internet. Shame really.

Also, an episode of Batman between Ghostbusters movies? Can I buy that from you?

DVD? So... they are packaging obsolete media inside the box of an even more obsolete media.

I hate having physical media, getting rid of it all frees up so much space. So yeah this very silly and probably one of the last throws of the dice for a company that has no place in the future.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Not sure if i still have it, i did keep a couple of my old VHS tapes for sheer nostalgia value, but i can't actually remember which ones (they're at the bottom of one of my boxes somewhere).

I much prefer physical media to digital, for a start it means i don't have to rely on the internet for absolutely bloody everything.

Also, HMV may have gone through a rough patch a few years back, but in the years since the business was rescued, their physical stores have improved a great deal, their online store is genuinely great, and i now always pre-order from them (plus by shopping with them, i've earned enough pure points over the last few years to get me signed stuff by Take That, Nicole Sherzinger, and Kylie Minogue! I still have 168,000 points left too).

There is most definitely still a place in the market for HMV.
