hmv are delighted to present the 'VHS Range', ​VHS era movies celebrated in a modern and fun ​limited edition package.

Each of these 12 titles (from Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures) feature a retro sleeve inspired by their original CIC VHS release.​ The box is imprinted with a VHS cassette, but with the height of a DVD to ensure it fits on the shelf. Inside are copies of the movie on both Blu-ray, and DVD featuring cassette reel disc art*. They also include a fold​ ​out replica theatrical poster, bubblegum card and sticker.

Smaller, fake VHS tapes - why?

This is ridiculous. But I would consider getting one or two .

How long before they put VHS back into production for that authentic grain that gradually gets worse the more you watch it.

VHS was gooseberry fool and belongs in the past.

Also where's Predator, Terminator or Commando in that lineup?

Unlike vinyl, VHS has the grand total of no redeeming features so I'd hope we never hit the hipster level of bringing it back.

An audio cassette style setup would have solved that issue, at the expense of having to turn the damn thing over halfway through the film.

Don't forget the part where you dream of being like that one friend that has that machine that rewinds tapes super fast and is shaped like a sports car.

VHS was fine at the time, the picture quality on CRT TV's was actually pretty decent (at least it was on mine) and i spent many hours enjoying tons of movies on the format throughout the 90's.

I actually quite like the look of this new range too, trouble is though, i'm pretty sure the movies chosen were already available on blu ray before this.

Instead they should have gone for titles which are still yet to be released, such as True Lies or Wayne's World.

I think 80s nostalgia has been done to death this past decade, time for the 90s nostalgia to begin.

I've not yet come across a 90s bar. Plenty of 80s bars (including some almost 10 years ago). Where are those 90s bars?

My girlfriend still uses VHS . We wanted to watch Gladiator the other night but it isn't on Netflix, she said not to worry she has it on video. I suggested we watch something else then.

If you literally can't be bothered to download or curate something like Plex (even though I have it), or that gooseberry fool doesn't work for some reason (no internet etc). Also some of the special features are actually good, sometimes a few hours long (LOTR, game of thrones etc) and the obvious advantage of something costing anywhere between 20 and 99p after postage. I only have two shelves worth but not really worth getting rid of. Hardly something to buy all the time or on a whim, but not bad for digging out an old film quickly without even having to search for it on some app or whatever (if you have a copy/license hasn't expired on streaming).

For some reason I still have the matrix on vhs.

As for this, pointless rerelease. They should go a step further and actually burn a VHS-O-Vision version onto DVD for authentic smearing, colour fading and interlacing artefacts. If anyone wants to remember how bad VHS is, TechMoan has a great comparison between legacy formats on YouTube.

Having said that, a good player (multiple tape heads) wasn't bad on CRT as the tube blurred most of it out anyway. I'd never choose to own or watch a VHS though.

As an aside, does anyone want the Alien Quadrology on VHS? You can have it for shipping plus £1 for my walk to the post office.
