Is this still a thing or is it a lost tradition? Not seen kids do this for years.

It's not even dark yet and we've already had two lots of Trick or Treaters. Has Halloween pushed Guy Fawkes to one side now?

There are always excellent fireworks displays where I live, but people coming 'round for money? I don't think that's a thing around here any more.

No, and I for one think it's disappointing that the sweeping commercialisation of Halloween is ever more replacing our nice little celebration of burning Catholics.

For as long as I've known the supermarket next to the nearest council estate here would always have kids collecting for 'the guy'. There'd always be wood piling up in the fields too

Don't think I've sen anything like that for nearly a decade now, we'd always garden bonfires in my street and dad would bring fireworks home. These days fireworks seem to be more of a communal thing arranged by adults with supervision.

We used to do penny for the guy round my way when I was a kid (it was penny for Halloween too none of that American Trick or Treat nonsense) but I haven't seen it done for a good long while.

There was a green near where I lived where we'd make a big bonfire every year. We used to go door to door seeing if anybody had any wood we could have.

Bit late for this isn't it? Bonfire night is in July.

It's never been a thing around my area as far as I know. I've always thought it was just an English thing.

I used to do it (as well as Trick or Treat and carol singing :fp:  Anything for a few extra bob).

Not seen anyone else do it in years though, if ever.

Surely by now it should be a pound for the guy?

I guess Halloween really has overtaken Bomb Fire Night.
