I'm not vegan but it's objectively better for the planet.

I don't really get this "Haha I'm not vegan" posturing on the internet.

And yes I realise the irony of this post

Why?

  • It's better for the planet such as reducing your carbon footprint as less energy and resources are required for your food, as well as avoiding mass destruction of habitats and their associated fallouts as demonstrated in this documentary
  • Generally the workers in the chain are treated more ethically regarding their health and safety, chemicals they have to use, wages
  • Less risk of global pandemics
  • It's healthier for the human body
  • You can have a better sex life as your blood flow is better which means your dick stays harder and bigger for longer so you can satisfy your partner(s). They are also more likely to suck your dick as cum apparently tastes better (less like battery acid)
  • and obviously you're not killing animals in the process

Downsides you don't get to look cool by bragging about eating meat because that makes you a real man :datass:

And you think its sustainable if every single person went vegan? I don’t think so at all, where is all this new area you’ll find to grow crops? You think if it becomes even more mass produced all the workers would be treated any better? And how much wildlife will you kill off when creating bigger area’s for crops.

The land area use for a vegan diet is way lower than for meat, that land is mostly already used to grow crops to raise livestock.

There is some argument for like sheep farming as it can use land unsuitable for crop farming but cattle are hugely less efficient than growing crops for direct human consumption.

As Orange says, a plant based diet uses a tiny fraction of land mass and water compared to other food types such as beef, lamb, chicken and fish (as demonstrated in the documentary you watched)

I think the best documentary I’ve watched laying this out is Leonardo DiCaprio’s “Before the Flood”. It should be free to watch on a streaming service somewhere. This documentary is about global warming/climate change overall, but it does have a short section dealing with food where they show the footprint for each category of food

While I don't necessarily agree that everyone in the world needs to go vegan, it doesn't take all that much thought to work out the answer to the first questions. We feed animals a crazy amount of crops and all of that land can be re-purposed along with a lot of the land that animals are raised on (yeah, probably not all of it). Add that to the fact that vertical farming of crops can and should become the norm to utilise space better and it becomes hard to justify keeping anywhere near the quantity of livestock that we currently do. The amount of land needed per person for growing plant-based food is much smaller.

I've seen quite a lot of arguments about the damage that farming soy beans can cause as an example or reason that something like this wouldn't help things. But when we remember that somewhere around 80% of soy beans currently produced are fed to livestock, it sort of falls apart. There may we be other valid arguments.

I agree though that large corporations and companies are always going to try and "optimise" to the point where they can treat their workers like gooseberry fool if it saves them money, so I think that point will probably still come true no matter what's being produced if there isn't enough oversight. Ideal world scenario is that there would be better legislation and regulations put in place at the same time as the shift if something like this was to happen. Definitely a more hopeful thing than I imagine actually coming true but it's definitely possible if it was done right.

Edit - apologies if the opening lines come off as patronising, was struggling to re-word it to make the right point.

Even with your sex blood flow argument, exercise and maintaining a healthy weight is so much more important in that regard. You think some lean chicken breast is gonna strawberry float up your erection?

Unfortunately, I know enough overweight and unhealthy vegetarians and vegans to know that it isn't the be all and end all of a healthy diet. I haven't lost any weight since going veggie because I still eat shite a lot of the time and have barely exercised in years.

Its perfectly reasonable. What is needed and what is wanted or hoped for are very very different things to any person.

What I want and hope for, is a rich girl, with an amazing smile who thinks I'm the best guy she's ever met. What I need is a reality check.

I guess I should have said 'the planet needs' or 'nature needs' rather than 'WE' need. Because what humanity needs is a time-out in the corner and a long hard look at itself.

Anyway although this is a serious topic I often find myself in out of my depth with you lot as I'm just not that articulate or argumentative enough, so I'll bid you adieu and chat ta ya about sports, games or films in other threads.
