Yo where the hell do you order physical copies of games from these days? Tempted to buy this on PS3 but I don't even know who outside of amazon sells games now.

The subbed version is the best version Maf.

Unless you speak Japanaese I don't see how you could know that.

Top of the Amazon video game best sellers :datass:

Trying to avoid reviews as I want to go in spoiler-free but the scores have me hyped.

But, I did want to check, any word on the difference between the PS3/4/Pro versions? Don't have a PS4 yet, but this sounds incredible (and I loved P3 and 4) so would be tempted to upgrade for an optimal experience.

What on earth has happened in Japan this year?

Last gen they took a long time to adapt to HD as the 360 came out a year before PS3 meaning western developers had a year head start, they also had no Japanese language support for Unreal Engine 3.

This geberation they started development the same time as western devs.

But even with all that, there are at least 3 Japanese games released this year that are not just good but Best Ever contenders. It's uncanny.

I think part of it is an acknowledgement that trying to borrow elements from western games to try to appeal to a global audience is a strategy that isn't really working*. So the best Japanese devs have decided to play to their strengths: they've focused intently on what they're best at, and in several cases managed to distil that into brilliant games.

*(which isn't to say that there are no western influences in these games, merely that they're used to subtly flavour what are still quintessentially Japanese games)

A lot of it has to do with the decline in quality of western games this generation too, particularly EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Microsoft.

Mass Effect, COD, Assassins Creed, Halo and Gears of Wars have all seen huge drops in Metacritic ratings this gen.

I think it just shows how cyclical this stuff is. Western developers have made exactly the same mistake of releasing the same games as last gen with a bit of a polish.

Based on the fact that Nier is the most "Japanese" game I've ever played in my life, I agree with this.

I think it's more that Japanese developers are still making last-gen games, but the extra power provided by the latest consoles is affording them the opportunity to focus on art, story and gameplay above performance optimisations. They're able to use a more mature tech stack, more off-the-shelf middleware, implementation becomes easier and design gets more attention.

We've seen ambitious projects pulled out of last-gen development hell in The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV, and more niche pet-projects like Gravity Rush 2 and NieR: Automata get off the ground because they're cheaper to fund now (they're basically just higher-res PS3 games). While Breath of the Wild, Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 are all last-gen games in the most literal sense.

I can't wait for this! What normally happens with online orders of Tuesday releases? I ordered on Simply Games. Think they might dispatch today, or will it be Monday?

Simply send games First Class, which isn't guaranteed Next Day, so they ship it two working days in advance. Barring special instruction from their distributor, a Tuesday release will ship on Friday. I think they normally have a batch go out around 11 or half past, so you should get your shipment notification shortly.

ON THE OTHER HAND I'd heard there was a manufacturing issue with the steelbooks that may have delayed shipments
