Ok, so I sacked off manual controls very quickly. I''m an old dog and that felt very much like a new trick. Made me realise how wayward my stick control actually is :slol:

I did, however, have my best performance yet last night. I had a rank of 580 and got put against a guy who was 760, controlling Juventus.

After a shaky start, I began to totally outplay him. I was 2-0 up with 76% possession at half time. He clawed a goal back in the 2nd half, but I could have scored several more. Very pleased with my 2-1 win.

Also had a see-saw battle with a 650 guy who was Madrid. Finished 2-2, but I was way better than him.

 . Yeah, I did try it out once and I think it'd take a lot of getting used to!

It's so satisfying to use a weaker team and get a result against folk who just spam Ronaldo's insta-goals. Well played, man! I led Saint Etienne to a 0-0 against Real yesterday and it's only due to their keeper's ridiculously good, point-blank save from my striker's last-minute header that I didn't grab victory. I managed to stay in Division 7 using mainly Etienne with a couple of Lazio games. It was tough as it was against a constant stream of Real, Barca and PSG :x  .

I'm actually excited to see how the teams are balanced for 2018 - surely Real and Barca will be nerfed slightly, won't they? If anything, a different crossing mechanism might stop the Bale-Ronaldo-goal exploit.

If Monaco keep Mbappe, they could be an interesting selection, and obviously PSG are going to become a popular choice too.

I think I'm in, day 1... :datass:

Yeah, snap - I've already pre-ordered as I know this is a game that I'm gonna play a lot over the course of the season. I usually find that it takes a while to adjust to a new version but, after that, the addiction arrives :-) .

My addiction is well and truly here now, but I bought the game quite late. No way I'm waiting this time.

How long does it usually take before the update files are available? It definitely improved the game, having the proper names and kits.

The launch period for PES usually includes a window of connection issues, awful online lag and out-of-date players before the game suddenly becomes brilliant about six weeks post-launch  . Maybe this season they'll get things running well right from the off! PES Universe normally have the team update patches available pretty quickly. I didn't use one last year (PES 2017) but I did for previous versions.

They don't normally run a beta so hopefully that's an indication they're looking at sorting out any online issues ready for launch but we'll see!

I always wonder who are the people who actually make those update files. I used to rename all the teams back in the PS2 days but I'd draw the line well short of editing each kit to the correct colours, let along adding all the extra details like sponsors! It must take absolutely ages.

Stick with it, KingK... you'll get better over time!

I'm turning things around after a poor run. In Online Division 7 I'm using Saint Etienne and, following my initial 0-0 home draw with Real Madrid, I've won 3-2 away at Atletico Madrid and 3-2 away at PSG. That's three games against higher-ranked players using better teams... and I'm doing okay :D .

Back in my Gamecube days, I renamed teams, edited the kits and adjusted the player stats on Winning Eleven 6 FE. There was a site with all the translations, etc which I ended up printing out in work (a small forest was downed). Took me a long, long, long time. Thank feck all you have to do now is download a file to update.

The GC doesn't feel that long ago to me but doing that seems like an age ago. Then again, my mum used to sit and type in code for games from magazines in the 80s. I think she enjoyed it more than playing the games, weirdly enough.

Good games last night, very tight. I couldn't get near you in that first game - if I'd snatched a draw it would have been an injustice. Redeemed myself slightly in the second one, though. I still can't believe that disallowed goal, though :D

(For anyone else: it was a late goalmouth scramble and the ball fell to two of my players on the goal-line. One played applied the finish, but the ball must have grazed the shins of the other guy, who was in an offside position. :fp: )

Not likely. Played 1 game last night against a guy who is 827 (I'm 340!). He had the most amazing team. Messi. C Ronaldo. Ronaldo. Reus. Aubameyang. Kroos. Bale.
He won 7-1 and still missed 3 pens!

Maybe switch to playing online divisions? It's good fun, very addictive, and you are more likely to be paired with closer matches to yourself. There is a lot of spamming of Madrid and Barca, but with time you can learn to counteract the more commonly-used tactics.

Yeah that offside was unbelievable  I got bit lucky before that too, when keeper came out but managed to block the shot with the defender. Had couple of chances I should have taken but you were well ahead in that one.

Also, echo what you said to KingK about online divisions; it's def more even and enjoyable.

You know I was kinda doing okay in Online Divisions? Well, I've now lost four times on the bounce. I've stuck with Saint Etienne - which, to be honest, is a bit of a stretch for me in Div 7 - but been beaten by Real (twice) and Barca (twice). I wasn't totally outclassed in any of the matches, but those teams only need a half-chance and it's almost like an automatic goal. Meanwhile, their keepers make world-class saves as standard.

And now I'm a bit grumpy because of it :fp:  .

Man, there are some cry-babies online  . I got beaten five on the bounce - all to Real or Barca - and then went 2-0 up inside 15 minutes against a guy using Dortmund. He quit the game :fp:  .

And another cry-baby is taken down. Playing as Lazio against Atletico, I started off well and was peppering his goal when he just stopped playing for a minute or two; then took the max time at all kicks and, well, not really playing. He was ranked higher than me, too :fp: .

Then, he started playing again and went 1-0 up against the run of play. I bounced back to equalise and got the winner on 89 minutes, with a flowing move up the pitch and a lovely diving header. It felt so good :toot: .

I discovered that the 'concede three own goals' thing does still void the game. I was 4-0 up and this guy just twatted it into his own goal from the kick off. At least I got the victory.

Yeah, I experienced that a while ago as well, Poser. It's better than what used to happen when such actions caused the game to be abandoned ( :? , :x ) as you do get awarded the win now :) .
