Surely EE and Vodafone pulled out because why pay someone to sell your contracts when you have hundreds of store fronts that can do that for you? It's no surprise that times are harder for the phone companies, Vodafone spent way too much expanding in recent years, and want to focus on their core business, as have EE with the merger of T-mobile and Orange.

Whilst I was looking for an upgrade earlier this year I was hankering over the latest Galaxy Note (until I opted for the Xperia Z2), Phones4U urged me to change from O2 (which I've been with for years) to EE even eventually willing to throw in a tablet for good measure I inevitably declined and looked elsewhere but in hindsight it looked like EE we're twisting their arm to get sigs on their contracts.

O2 released me from my last contract with them when my phone was stolen and set me up with a new iphone 18 months ago without me even asking. I can't fault them, but I also know that their customer service arm was outsourced recently so quality may be dropping off a bit.

Things just aren't getting better for troubled British phone retailer Phones 4U.

First, there was the disastrous news that the company was suddenly shutting down, after it lost all its wireless carrier partners, an announcement that could result in the loss of 6,000 jobs.

But it was the timing of the shutdown announcement that has caused chaos. See, the news came just after people pre-ordered the iPhone 6. Phones 4U customers had already gone ahead and purchased their phone through the company, assuming that everything would be OK. But it wasn't. And now, things have gone from bad to worse.

Earlier today, Phones 4U attempted to send an email to all of its customers who had pre-ordered the iPhone 6, informing them that it would not be able to refund credit card charges that customers had spotted on their account statements. However, Phones 4U managed to include everybody's email address in the "To" field.

Sure enough, angry customers started to "Reply-all" to the email, requesting refunds that Phones 4U can't afford to offer anymore.

Eventually, Phones 4U tried to make it all go away by sending out another email retracting everything that had been said in the previous message. Except, this email also included all the recipients in the "To" field, meaning that everything kicked off once again.

I'm presuming the credit card companies themselves will be issuing the refunds?

I would have thought its more, they can't sell the devices as there is no Company to sell them. More over all stock would have been used as liquidation assets.
