A new "action espionage" game is to be developed by Kojima Productions with support from Sony. The game was announced during a State of Play presentation on 31 January 2024. Work will commence following the completion of Death Stranding 2 which is currently scheduled to release in "2025".

It was also announced that this project will result in both a game and a movie.

Is this the earliest a game has ever been announced? 1-2 years before it goes into development?

Given that it would be reasonable to assume a minimum four-year development period - probably more - and that this won't start until, say, autumn 2025, I'd guess that we're looking at a launch time of Christmas 2029. We may be playing this on PS6 Pro :lol:

A game to surpass Metal Gear...

I’m glad they announced this, even if it is years away. Adore the Metal Gear Solid games, but never quite got into Death Stranding, while I have next to zero interest in his horror project.

Load of nonsense announcing this so far out.

Kojima himself has posted on X/Twitter that this game and movie is for "the next generation". I'm guessing that he means new hardware/timeframe rather than new people, so I've updated the thread title accordingly. Our first PS6 game!

Why on earth they announced this this early I have no idea.

I guess Kojima Productions might be struggling to find new investors and need something to get people interested in their company.

Looking forward to seeing this on Steam in 2031.

I think it might be the other way around, Qikz; Sony want to make a splash about having Kojima's new take on action espionage.

Kojima Productions are working on Death Stranding 2 and then this; whilst also developing an upcoming Xbox exclusive title called OD.
