I want to buy a piano for my conservatory as I used to play the instrument and want to try getting back into it. However, a traditional piano would be a logistical nightmare for me, so I think a digital piano is the way to go. These are presumably light and compact enough for me to set up on my own.

But how does a digital piano differ from a keyboard, which are substantially cheaper to buy?

I have an M-audio Oxygen 49 key digital keyboard. Does the trick. Obviously not the same as a traditional piano but good enough. Cheap as chips on ebay.

Yamaha and Casio make some decent portable Pianos.

Digital pianos and keyboards are entirely different things. Definitely go with the digital piano

Gario, what the hell? A digital piano?

What's next? A digital clock instead of a grandfather?

Basically it goes like this:

Keyboard - gooseberry fool
Digital Piano - Sounds like a piano
Synthesiser - lol well funny sounds
MIDI controller - not a musical instrument, makes no sounds

Keytouch/keybed in important. Go to a shop.

We've had a digital piano for years now and it feels and sounds like a piano. Go for it

Good luck tuning them.

I want to spend £400 maximum, will I get a decent one for that price?

Hmm may need to look second hand.

There's stuff in that price range but the problem tends to be with the keys themselves which drastically affect how it feels (and ultimately whether you will want) to play.
