This is the usual excuse studios use though. The problem is that it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. If there is a lack of famous minority actors then that's only because minority actors have not comprised a lot of high profile roles. Obviously there are always going to be a lack of famous Asian female actors if you rarely cast any in major roles.

and its not actually true (at least in the last few years)
plenty of recent films have done well despite having a minority cast.
just look at Get Out, Moonlight etc.

Get Out was written and directed by one half of a very famous comedic duo though.

If the film was being made in a predominantly whote country. And the amount of minority actors reflected the population of that country I dont think it could be considered white washing.

Similarly if a Japanese studio remade a western film and used all Japanese actors (or dubbed a western film with all Japanese actors) I don't see what would be wrong with that.

This completely disregards the global reach that Hollywood has. This film wasn't produced by a small firm in a back lot somewhere in a predominantly white suburb of California, without the ability to draw talent from elsewhere. Hollywood can attract actors from anywhere on the globe, and it's audience is global, so ideas about reflecting the ethnic make up of where it was produced go out the window completely.
