EVERYTIME I read "NSW" I see "NSFW". Thought Pikmin had taken a hell of a turn for a minute. :slol: :fp:

Wonderful news. The best news today's Direct, in fact.

Cannot wait.

Still think this shot looks too good for the current Switch :shifty:

Not when you realise the big lad there is supposed to be a photorealistic image of Shigsy.

Mmm, the more concerning thing about that image is the caption "you'll be able to play from the Pikmins perspective near the ground" which will be beautiful - but weren't the previous Pikmin games quite reliant on a more topdown perspective so you can see the Captain, the Pikmin, the cursor etc and plenty of surrounding environment (note I've only mucked around a bit with Pikmin 3)?

Coupled with the fella in the reveal saying something about the Switch making the Pikmin easier to control (I'm not sure what about the Switch hardware makes Pikmin easier to control over previous consoles)....I wonder if we're going to get some Star Fox Wii U level of innovation with the controls :dread:

The top down view in Pikmin 3 appears to be more restrictive to make certain parts of the game harder, mostly in the case of seeing where fruit are or where pikmin need to be thrown. 1 and 2 had three camera angles where you could zoom out and see more. They didn't like how, when zoomed out, it was difficult to see the pikmin on such low resolutions. Rather than retain this feature in 3, now HD, they zoomed out the default camera to what they thought would be an optimal playing experience and fixed it.

Having replayed 3 recently, I can say it was certainly frustrating at times having some action happening close by that couldn't be seen because of the top down view, forcing me to walk much closer. Of course 3 also added the free camera to look around the entire map anyway, which, as useful as it is, I feel limits the exploration side of the game somewhat, and doesn't quite make sense on the immersion side when most other things in the game typically have an in-game reason given to them. This camera pauses the game too, so it is really useful, but it doesn't help when I just want to aim at a big enemy or something.

Idk if this was the intended method, it seemed like a clever implementation, but one fruit in the game hangs very high up in a tree such that looking at it straight on, it can't be seen, and subsequently can't be aimed at, because of the top down camera angle. Turning the camera 180 so the camera's behind the fruit, brings the fruit into the forefront, literally taking up a big part of the screen, and also allowing you to aim at it from behind. This kind of puzzle would be lost with less fixed camera angles.

Haha, yup, I had a look in this thread if anyone had written his name so I could copy it because there's no way I could spell it without seeing it directly before typing it. My misspellings were so way out, I worried people wouldn't know who I was talking about so settled for 'the fella in the reveal'. Now you've typed it once I'll be able to Ctrl C in this thread going forward....yes I'm aware googling in another tab would have been much less work than the subsequent explanation :D

What do we think, Wii U or NX 2016 launch game?

Has this been in the works for eight years?

It probably got the Metroid Prime 4 treatment, perhaps more than once

Cancelled and given to Retro?

No wonder they've been so quiet.

Pikmin 4 definitely got rebooted after that EUROGAMER interview, what prompted it remains to be seen but I guess the 4th was too similar to 3 so they re-thought the game?
