Miramar (and other improvements) Hitting Xbox Test Servers in April

Hi everybody,

It’s been four months since PUBG hit Xbox Game Preview and we’ve just released patch #12.

Our Xbox team has been constantly working on optimizations and bugfixes, alongside all the features we promised in the Xbox spring roadmap. Today we want to share a little more about the content drops and improvements we’ll be shipping to PUBG over the next couple of months.

After extensive efforts, we’ve been able to get Miramar ready for Xbox. Miramar will be coming to test servers before the end of April, and we expect it’ll hit live servers sometime in May.

The Miramar test server update will also include new vehicles and weapons, alongside several crucial gameplay optimizations. Here are just two examples:

Our art asset streaming process has been optimized. This will somewhat improve the “play-doh” effect on textures and will mitigate interior prop pop-in issues. This will make a big difference in the early phases of each game.

Our character movement system was also causing some problems, and has now been optimized. Performance and stability will be better even when many players gather in one location. We expect this to help out the game’s performance past the mid-phase.

Expect to also see new and improved designs for out-of-game menus and screens. The update is necessary to prepare our servers for when event matches and custom matches are introduced later on.

Finally, improving crashes is our highest priority. Simply put, stability is the most basic element that determines gameplay quality, so we’re taking it seriously and focusing on it with every patch. All of these changes will hit the test server first so we can make sure the above-mentioned optimizations run well before pushing them to live.

It's been a significant challenge for our team to bring a massive open world game like PUBG to life on console, and we're working hard to staff up our development resources so we can invest more in the game and the community. The feedback we get from players is great motivation for us, so we want to say: thank you. Thanks for your feedback, your patience and your support throughout this journey.

General Gameplay

We’ve adjusted safe zone and blue zone functionality. Also, in-game clothing spawns have been removed.

Blue zone delay time has been reduced. You’ll be given less time to linger between phases.
The maximum movement speed of the blue zone has been reduced. The blue zone will move more slowly toward the end of the game.
The damage inflicted by 7th, 8th, and 9th blue zones has been increased.
Except for the first blue zone, the probability of creating an extreme safe zone (one far away from the center of the previous circle) has been reduced by 30%.
The final blue zone will narrow down to the center instead of narrowing down to a random spot, and the total wait time including the blue zone inactive time has been reduced. (195 seconds to 90 seconds)
As the end of the match approaches, the safe zone will increasingly favor areas with land over areas with water.
On Erangel specifically, the first safe zone will now be revealed 30 seconds earlier.
On Miramar specifically, players can now see the first safe zone while flying in the airplane. (We may or may not carry this over to the next live update. We want your feedback about this change.)
In-game clothing spawns have been removed from all maps. Other item spawn balance remains the same.

World

Improvements were made mainly on Northern part (Northeast, Northwest) of the Miramar to make it a more appealing area.

The Oasis can now be found in the north, and Alcantara village has been added to the northwest.
We’ve added more roads, off-road paths, and car spawning positions to facilitate easy travel into and out of the area.
Higher-tier loot is now more likely to spawn in specific areas of the north of Miramar.
We’ve optimized the GPU performance of buildings seen from mid-range (all maps).

UI/UX
Improvements to teams
You can now send requests for invitations by clicking the invite button on another player’s career screen.
If you are a team leader, you can now kick your team members.
You can also kick any team member using “Team” tab in the friends list, found at the bottom right corner of the screen..

Bug Fixes
Footsteps should now always make sound when walking on tarp, carpet
Fixed an issue causing some objects to become invisible at particular distances
Indoor plants should no longer block bullets
Fixed and removed some weirdly-placed road signs, plants, and stairs
Fixed an issue that broke the killer spectating function whenever the killer died too quickly after taking out the spectating player
Fixed an issue that sometimes caused players to take no damage when exiting a moving vehicle

Still not making the Bronco more stable is a mistake. Will be interested to see if that will make a difference or if the way of playing is too ingrained in people.

Not a fan of the Circle showing whilst in the plane, reduces the spread at the start, which again leads to quiet mid game. The rest sounds interesting though, removing clothing spawns is something people have asked for since day 1, will be interested to see if that improves performance.

The seeing the circle from the plane is a rubbish idea. Really hope they don't implement that fully!

Just had my first few games of this while it's free to play. It's alright, albeit a bit clunky. Did gooseberry fool the first two goes but then made it to 15th on the third as I started to learn the controls. Not sure it's something I'll be buying though.

Yeah, this isn't for me. It just seems to be a case of run to the circle, find somewhere to hide, wait for people to find you and then die because they have a super powerful machine gun and you're firing potatoes. Controls are awful too.

It's a shame as I like the concept but I think it's badly executed. Unistalled.

That's pretty much the reason why I'm holding off on getting into battle royale at the moment.

I've watched streams of this and Fortnite and they both look pretty janky, it's inevitable that someone like Dice, Treyarch or Respawn are going to perfect the formula eventually.

Well I'd say it's an acquired taste but the fact it's sold millions both on console and PC kinda makes that a moot point. I think there is a point where it 'clicks' especially with PUBG. I would happily play PUBG with my mates for hours and hours on end. I do think playing in a duo or squads makes the game a far superior experience. I can't put my finger on why but having a laugh coupled with the conversations of strategy and helping each other with loot, and ammo, and sights etc really is good. We currently delve into sea of thieves to relax somewhat and go back to PUBG.

The likes of stupid gooseberry fool like this make it a laugh.
Mate was picking 2 of us up from blue zone and on way back said "I'm doing it lads, I'm going to ramp it" (considering the bike blows up from sometimes just flipping) we were shouting "no, noooooo DON'T DO IT" then "FUUUUUUUU" when in mid air... :lol:

I can also play PUBG for hours and that's on my own with randoms in squads even if most of the time they jump at a busy town and die within seconds of landing.

Had the game since mid-March and it's already my highest playtime game on Steam at 70 hours.

And you should be playing in FP mode not babby mode Photek :dread:

Aye, and I do play FPP with Duo's but finding a game of FP in a squad on Xbox takes a fair bit of time between matches, compared to TPP which is seconds.

Yes there is MMR, but the stats are reset quite regularly, I generally end up far too high for my skill level every month (due to the guys I play with) so I do progressively worse as each season wears on :fp:

Still 8 player squad event this weekend, I cannot wait, should be bedlam, I may give you a shout Garly if we need an 8th ;)
