Ok, so out of sheer boredom I cracked out the original Tekken trilogy and bunged them into my PS3...

Round One!

Urgh. Did games really used to play like this? Graphically I was never expecting much, and certainly did not leave disappointed there. But the gameplay is like wading through some kind of incredibly thick treacle, that covers the entire body. The AI still cheats to buggery too.

Round Two!

Marginally better, Tekken 2 improves ever so slightly. Which is odd as I always used to think Tekken 2 was miles ahead of the somewhat crap original, but no...the treacle is still there, albeit a touch diluted. So the general fighting still feels a touch too stodgy for my liking, oh and the AI still cheats to buggery. Albeit not till the later stages now.

Round Three!

Ahh this is more like it, a Tekken game that is actually still playable! Tekken 3 doesn't even look that horrid either, not fantastic at all, but definitely a damn sight better than the angular blocky freaks from previous incarnations. Music and sound effects sound horribly compressed though. Just thank Jebus that you can actually play this one without feeling like you are diving head first into a tar pit.

Bonus Round!

Yeah I also bunged Tekken Tag Tournament in the PS3, but can't be bothered to do a post in a PS2 topic. The intro at least is exceptional, even now. A masterclass of CGI. The game? I would love to tell you, but the framerate dies due to gooseberry fool software emulation.

Bollocks.

Got to say Tekken 2 is my favourite of the series, probably due to the slow gameplay and amazing soundtrack.

Never got why Namco took the shading off the characters though, they looked much better in Tekken 1.

I have to agree with you Nick, the soundtrack in Tekken 2 is just so memorable, especially the Marshal Law one (I think).

Teiyu Goto, the man responsible for saving us from that kidney-shaped disaster above and delivering us the splendid original PlayStation's controller, has sat down for a little chat with Famitsu over in Japan. Involved in the PlayStation project almost from its inception, the designer played a pivotal role in shifting Sony away from its Nintendo copycat ways and into the world of handle-equipped button pads. Moreover, his brainbox is the one responsible for coming up with the now legendary geometric button icons adorning the PS controller's buttons. Here's how Goto explains their meaning: the circle and x represent yes and no, respectively, the triangle symbolizes a point of view, and the square is equated to a sheet of paper, there to be used to access menus. Frankly, given the backlog of memories we have built up with those keys, this explanation leaves us a little high and dry, couldn't he have made up some dragon-slaying stories? Hit the source below for the whole interview, it's well worth the read.

The original PS1 controller was perfect for the ISS Pro games before the analogue stick was needed!

Is there a USB adaptor around so you can use them on PS3?

Great little machine and for me still the best and most reliable console Sony have built.Got one about a week after launch. Some good times.

Favorite games would have to be Destruction Derby/Track&Field/RidgeRacer.

Hmm, the PSOne was a solid machine, but I fondly remember having to turn my PS1 upside down for it to work until it died. Luckily the PS2 was around the corner!

I would recommend getting an adapter for a pc so you can connect an original PS1 pad and using EPsxe to play some of your playstation games.

RC De Go!, Rapid Reload and The Bombing Islands (Bombuzal clone), Gekido have had some recent play out of me.

As for when I first got my PS1, I hated Tekken 2, it was slow as. Tekken 3 I loved back then tho.

I really wish I could afford Harmful Park, nice shooter.

My favourite playstation of all time is bushido blade, so simple yet addictive. I can still play it for hours in end.
