Derailing my own questions slightly, has anyone heard anything about this:

I'm desperate for a BluRay remote for the PS4 and this one looks ideal.

Sounds cool, suzz - I plan on attaching a 2Tb drive to my machine. I take it that, although the external drive becomes the default, you can still use the internal drive?

suzzopher wrote:...You can't save games to the drive they are tied to the internal drive.

Ah... so all game saves are saved onto the internal drive, but game files can be saved and run from the external drive?

You don't have to have it as your default destination. I just chose it as the external has twice as much space as my internal.

Yeah the game will save on the internal but play from the external.

And what is the loading speed like? What speed drive do you have?

(Sorry, I have tonnes of questions about this...)

5.0 Gbps is the speed.

I haven't noticed any difference loading from internal or external, although the Pro seems to be generally faster than my original PS4 so perhaps not a fair comparison.

Ah, I see - thanks, man. I wonder if it works like the Wii U storage i.e. you can choose which games are saved on which drive, and move them around if you wish to?

So your PS4 is rockin' 6Tb of storage! :o :toot: .

Yes you can swap the games from internal to external, I have moved nearly all my games onto the external drive, sorry I meant to have said 3TB drive not 4TB. So I have 5TB, only have 1.5TB left though :shifty:

There is a workaround to that, though.

Part of an email I received from Sony.

Important PlayStation™ Now Update
You will not be able to use your PlayStation™Now subscription (“PlayStation™Now”) on PlayStation®3, PlayStation®Vita, PlayStation®TV, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Bravia TVs (2014-2016*) and Sony Blu-Ray players from 15th August 2017 or on select Sony Bravia TV 2016 models** from 15th May 2017 (the “Affected Devices”). You will still be able to access hundreds of PS3 games on PlayStation™Now on PS4 and PC.

You won’t be able to buy a PlayStation™Now subscription on the Affected Devices after 14th March 2017 but you can purchase a subscription via your PS4 or PC and play on the Affected Devices until the dates shown above. After those dates you can continue to use your PlayStation™Now subscription on PS4 and PC.

So that went well, then. Those TVs that they were happily selling with PS Now as an advertised feature... dropped like a stone.

I don't personally give a gooseberry fool, but there are going to be literally several disappointed people who currently use the service.

And that's why buying a TV based on its "Smart" capabilities is a fools errand; support is dropped after a few years and you're left with antiquated features or apps that simply no longer function properly. Focus on the box under your TV instead - support will last in excess of 5 years (not 5 months!) and it will have cost you far less.

Appalling way to treat customers though, especially those purchasing 2016 TVs!

A lot of the “smart” devices coming out end up screwing over their customers a short time later. That’s a poor show from Sony though.

Over on the Elder Scrolls Online forum, it has been said that some GAF users are suggesting that the external hard drive functionality requires an "always on" internet connection due to DRM.

*If* this is true.... oh, Sony :fp: . Are any of you Beta system software guys able to confirm this?

Hmmn. I can't trace an occurrence of anyone saying this - hopefully it was just a false alarm?

Any idea which TV OS has the best reputation for long term support?

Have any platforms been discontinued? Does remind me of all the competing smartphone platforms' before Google, Apple and Microsoft came in and killed them off.

That is just the same as if you log into a 2nd PS4 to play your games. I'm ok with this as I do it anyway as my PS4 is not set as my main PS4. Also, this may mean you can take the HD, plug into another PS4, login and then play the games on it.
Yes?

Yeah, you wouldn't expect to be able to unplug the HDD, and plug it into another machine without logging in, because then you could just just dupe the HDD and away you go: a tonne of copied games.

The flip side, of course, is if your connection is down and you can't access games on the HDD.

I can see your point, guys, but I'm used to just plugging an external drive into my 360 and Wii U and playing games off it. MS and Nintendo took the approach of tying the hard drive to the machine wereas - possibly - Sony may be taking the approach of tying the hard drive to a logon.

Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages but, for me, I'm apprehensive about an approach that necessitates an always-on connection. Even if I buy single-player offline games, I can't use them unless I can connect to Sony's network? As a predominantly digital download purchaser, this doesn't sound ideal. It could mean that I'd be unable to access my games when Sony (eventually) turn off their PS4 servers.

I haven't been able to locate a source to verify Sony's approach, so I guess we'll have to wait and see!

There are rumours that system software 4.5 could be released tomorrow. I hope so... external hard drive game access at last!

I bloody hope so too, could have done with some remote play from the PC while the TV was in use that way could have kept on with Horizon. When your in a beta it stops the use of RP.
