How easy is external HD usage on consoles? I've got an HD that's full of movies and photos, but I've still got plenty of space on it that could come in useful to store large game files. Would I have to reformat it?

Yeah, to the best of my knowledge, Preezy, any console using an external hard drive will format it in a way that is different to normal PC / Mac use. You wouldn't be able to use your drive for both console and computer storage at the same time.

In terms of ease-of-use, it's a piece of cake. Plug it in, a bit of formatting and then you're good to go. I've grown to love hard drive storage over discs :-).

Hmm I guess I'll have to purchase another HD if I want to go down the external route for my PS4. No way would I be allowed to wipe all of the Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol and Disney movies

That's just a perfect reason to claim you need a PS4 Pro so you aren't forced to wipe all that stuff.
Really hammer home the idea that it's a one or the other choice of PS4 Pro or the cartoons get the chop.

I'm actually excited about the hard drive update . I have a USB drive all ready to go .

I, too, am delighted that I'll have more games at my fingertips that I will never actually play .

I'm actually pretty brutal, if it doesn't grab me on my first play it gets deleted.

I haven't yet, KingK... but I'm down to about 110 Gb on my PS4 so I guess I'll find out soon!

KingK, I meangt to get backto you on this... yeah, I haev experienced the same. Two or three times in the past month I have been downloading stuff when I have got a message indicating that not enough space is available even though I have about 70 Gb free. It appears that the PS4 doesn't like falling below the 60-odd GB mark. That's not too bad if you're using a 2Tb drive, but for 500 Gb users it must be a bit of a pain.

Thank goodness the external drive update is arriving tomorrow .

Is there a size limit on what the PS4 will see external HDD wise does anyone know?

I had become brutal as space was low, but I had the beta and have downloaded and (so far) kept everything from last month and this.

Worth mentioning that the external drive must use USB 3.0... USB 2.0 devices won't work. Anything pretty recent should be okay. I'm gonna be slammin' in a 2 Tb Maxtor drive to double my total space. I had to delete Mad Max today so, after the update, I'll be downloading that again!

I have a 2TB external ready to go along with my 2TB internal. A very welcome upgrade along with the Boost mode

I had a quick look to see if the update was out before leaving... it's not there yet! Oh well, will check tonight.

4.50 available now. (Wasn't in my download list automatically, though, had to activate it manually via system update.)
