If you have Pro mode on and download a game through PSN+, do you get to keep it when your subscription expires?

Yes?

If only that "Boost Mode" could have a name change. Finally... "Blast Processing" would be a reality :datass: .

 I just remembered I don't think that was a GRcade trope.

My brother and I recite it all the time - it was one of those godawful 'tips' from the loading screens of Burnout 3.

I wasn't! One of my favourite PS2 games. But those tips were ridiculous.

Plugged in a 2TB USB hard drive (I figure that if I've only just started to run out of room after three years, a 400% increase should be good for now) and it's working a treat. PS5 needs to support this from the outset.

So does it need to reformat the entire drive, or does it just work right out the box?

Can anyone recommend a USB hub for the PS4? I'm guessing the HDD needs to sit on a 3.0 port and I'm thinking my PSVR probably should as well. Most of the PS4 hubs seem to be 1x 3.0 and 4x 2.0.

You have to reformat it to "extended storage" (Settings/Devices). Took about a minute.

Good to know. Could you do me a huge favour if you get a second? Let me know if the file structure is then visible if you plug the HDD into a PC?

Ie, I want to get a tonne of movie files onto my PS4, but I don't want to have to copy them across via USB. It'd be very cool if I was able just to drag them across to the VIDEO folder on the HDD.

Thanks in advance!

I guess you guys are using the external drive for non-game data (i.e. films and music) at the moment? The PS4 has been able to do this for quite a while, but I believe that you can only store and run games from it if you're using the new system update.

Has anyone who is using the update tried saving and running games from an external drive yet?

I don't actually have an HDD yet, but hoping to add one once the firmware is updated. I'd be far more likely to do so if I could easily drop a load of films onto it though. I guess I could use a multi-USB adapter and buy two disks, but it all seems a bit fussy/messy.

I've stuck a 4TB drive on mine and have been running games from it no problem, it's now the default drive for downloading/installing. You can't save games to the drive they are tied to the internal drive.

Also the boost mode on the Pro is welcome addition. Yakuza 0 runs better now.

Sounds cool, suzz - I plan on attaching a 2Tb drive to my machine. I take it that, although the external drive becomes the default, you can still use the internal drive?

Ah... so all game saves are saved onto the internal drive, but game files can be saved and run from the external drive?

You don't have to have it as your default destination. I just chose it as the external has twice as much space as my internal.

Yeah the game will save on the internal but play from the external.

And what is the loading speed like? What speed drive do you have?

(Sorry, I have tonnes of questions about this...)

Ah, I see - thanks, man. I wonder if it works like the Wii U storage i.e. you can choose which games are saved on which drive, and move them around if you wish to?

So your PS4 is rockin' 6Tb of storage! :o :toot: .
