Good point Jawa, between 2006 and 2009 Wii was seen as running away with it, then sales just fell off the cliff.

PS3 was quite the opposite, expensive and slow start but really hit it's stride in the second half of the generation as Wii sales dried up and 360 became the Kinectbox.

Weren't there rumours that MS counted all the RROD returns/exchanges as additional units sold?! :slol:

Not sure about that, but some people did have to rebuy consoles before they introduced the 3 year warranty in 2007. Mine died in 2008, after receiving my replacement I sold it and rebought the HDMI model which had the newer processors...

...I then sold it to a friend in 2012 and it RROD'd on him after a month

Some estimates put the failure rate of early models as high as 50%.

But what was the failure rate of the 60GB PS3? Mine died with the yellow light problem which I temporarily fixed with a hairdryer before trading in at Game (who now have a low share value as a result) for a 320GB model. So this would show as 2 sales.

Yes?

When including the infamous “Red Ring of Death” (RROD) problem that has plagued Xbox 360 systems, the Xbox 360 had a reported failure rate of 23.7%, nearly 9 times that of the Wii. PS3 consoles ranked in the middle of our study, with a reported failure rate of 10.0% over the course of 2 years.

My launch 360 is still going :o I replaced it with a 250GB Elite Model with HDMI in 2009, but passed it onto my brother who's used it ever since.

UK hardware sales so far this year compared to last (from MCV magazine)

https://issuu.com/newbayeurope/docs/mcv880_may_27th

PS4 up 6.7%
Xbox One down 15.8%

Looks like Xbox One sales already reached their peak last year, another price drop is really needed.

Sony's latest financials reveal a further 3.9m PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped between the start of July and end of September, taking the worldwide tally up to 47.4m PS4s shipped. PS4 passed the 40 million worldwide sales milestone in May.

That three-month period included the launch of the cheaper PS4 Slim console, which arrived in 500GB form 16th September, and 1TB form 29th September.

That three-month period did not include the 13th October launch of PlayStation VR, sales of which, Sony said in the financial report, "are on track".

It's good that we can know exactly how many Pros were sold. It'll just make The Cleansing so much easier.

Thing with that is, now it's been available bundled for less than £200, I'd personally never pay more than that. I wonder if the Black Friday blowout sales ever damage long-term sales.

I can only presume those 117 people wanted it as a post-modern table mat, as they aren't going to be able to find any games for the thing in shops.

Maaan, those are some shitty console numbers. How's Switch doing over there? Will Sony have to release a different PS5 in Japan compared to the one it releases everywhere else, or maybe a new handheld? How's their mobile games department doing?
