Jawafour, the PSP was a big success but it wasn't in direct competition with the GBA, so while it may be surprising that it sold around the same number, it's a bit 'so what'. A better comparision is PSP v Nintendo DS, which of course sold twice the amount.

Best selling UK console in 2014

Best selling UK console in November and December combined

Best selling UK console on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Certainly evidence that the XBO is not closing the gap, in the UK at least. Will be interesting if we see US figures for December to see if the story is the same there.

The gap's certainly widening despite Microsoft's price cuts and Xmas bundles.

Am I right in thinking the Xbox One is being put back up to it's pre-November price?

Nintendo's figures are shipped, just like Microsoft, but for some reason Nintendo escape the '*shipped not sold' note whenever sales are compared.

Would it be fair to say that worldwide, the PS4 is increasing its lead over the Xbone? After all, pretty much the only place the Xbone gained a notable amount of ground on the PS4 recently was the US.

Despite Microsoft's recent price drops and giveaway bundles the gulf has continued to grow.

PS4 launches in China this weekend, a country where Xbox One managed to sell 100,000 units in the first week. If sales follow the polls, Sony could have another half a millions sales this weekend.

Worth noting that Xbox One has DRM and region-lock in China where as PS4 doesn't, so expect Sony to clean up the market there.

It's sturdy progress. The Wii may be ahead of the game like-for-like but the PS4 is more expensive and doesn't have 'Waggle'. You know, that killer trend that was a thing a long time ago.

So, in context, it's outstanding.

It doesn't need exclusives, just the 3rd party titles. Those are what most people want to play.

I was speaking with my sister in law and her partner over Christmas, they play games together on the PS3, but not that frequently, I helped them get past the first clicker encounter in the Last of Us while I was there as they'd been stuck on it for a while. I was surprised when she said "We love Uncharted, we're buying a PS4 as soon as Uncharted 4 is out". That might be quite a system shifter.

PS4 China delay apparently due to lack of region lock.

Wasn't the Xbox One delayed by a week for the same reason? Also, surely Chinese officials should have made this clear during initial negotiations.

That figure was fuelled by an impressive 6.4m PlayStation 4 units shipped to shops and a whopping 147m game sales. The same period last year, 4.5m PS4s and 128m games were sold, and the Game and Network Services division saw a 12.4bn yen (£69m) operating income.

I wonder if the good sales of the PS4 will see them try and do the same 7 year lifespan as PS3?
