  .

I'd thought I'd read that you had to use a DualShock 4! This changes everything!

Well I've certainly been using my DualSense so far with no problems!

I think the bigger controversy was that you couldn't use the DualShock on PS5 games even when they didn't use any of the new features of the DualSense

That's great, Jen - thanks for the tip. I'd thought I'd be spending the morning tracking down my spare DualShock but now I can jump straight in!

Oh, and I can confirm that the... what's the word?... funky PS5 styling is really growing on me. I have it horizontal under my TV and it looks so modern and slick. There's no denying that it's a beast, though!

I have my PS5 game collection underway with disc versions of Balan Wonderworld, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Miles Morales; with digital versions of Spider-Man Remastered, No Man's Sky (free upgrade from PS4), Astro and - although I need to check that I can download it - Bugsnax via PS Plus! I think that I can upgrade Watch Dogs Legion from PS4 to PS5 for free, too.

It feels odd that I'm returning to buying disc versions of games after being almost totally digital on PS4. I think it's a combination of digital pricing, less storage space and that "PS3 Store closedown" issue that has sent me down this route; but I'm pretty comfortable with it. I've set my mind up that I just won't be buying games at £69.99 and I'll wait for price drops.

At this moment I think this console generation will be one where I buy far fewer games and spend time playing/re-playing older stuff. Let's see how this thought turns out over the next couple of years.

So... how is your PS5 game collection coming on? Anyone else reverted back to discs? Or maybe you picked up the PS5 Digital version? Are you buying at launch or holding off for a bit?

I’ve stuck with a digital PS5.

Yes it is expensive but I offload the costs by getting codes from cdkeys. I do miss having a collection of games on disc but I suspect that I will go down a retro route and build up my empty shelves one day. The only snag is that I need an older TV.

The bonus is that I pay for 200Mbps Fibre boardband and the download times is a lot quicker (even more if you put the console on rest mode.) I suspect it’s a bit too much but I’m happy with the service so far.

Yeah, I guess that looking around and buying credit from cheaper sources can help, Wedgie.

It sounds like you could be posting in the retro gaming and Weekender threads at some point, dude :toot: .

I think I will pick up most of the AAA games on disc seeing as so far the discounts on PSN store for games such as Demon's Souls have been modest and you can then always resell. But everything else is digital. I have also kept my Pro as not every single title is back compat 100% - some of the PS2 titles are glitchy. Something the Xbox series machines aren't affected by and everything runs more or less flawlessly. MS did a fantastic job getting some of the last 3 generations of Xbox games running on the Series machines.

I have a set of ps5 games that nobody wants to buy, but then go and buy those games for more than I was selling them for.

Should have mentioned on here that you were selling them.

We have Ratchet, Demons Souls, Hitman 3, Miles Morales and Resi 5 physical. The last two were bundled with the console, we used a gift voucher for demons souls, Ratchet was £55 and Hitman was under £30 I think. Waiting on getting Returnal for an acceptable price.

Nah it's the opposite problem - you can't use a PS4 controller to play a PS5 game, so if you want to play local multiplayer you have to buy a second dualsense. Sony claim this is because the dualsense is integral to the experience... but it doesn't make sense. The dualshock 4 works fine with the PS5 as you can use it to play PS4 games, and you can remote play PS5 games on a PS4... with a dualshock 4.

Yeah, I've read that the console sure does run PS4 games really well, andy. I haven't tried any older games on my console yet; I believe you need to use a DualShock 4 controller. I'm sure I have a spare one around and I'm gonna dig that out later. I wonder if you can power on your PS5 using a PS4 controller?

You know, having experienced in the Astro game how good the DualSense controller feedback effects are, I'm thinking that using it in combination with PSVR2 could be amazing. That sense of VR immersion combined with the controller feel... wow!

Where did you hear that? The Dual Sense works with any PS4 game. I'm not sure the Dual Shock 4 even works with the PS5.

I’ve got R&C on disc and currently debating getting Spider-Man MM UE (Christ!) for 50 snoops on Amazon purely to own Spider-Man remastered. I’ve got the vanilla version from Boomerang sat on my coffee table - I tweeted Insomniac about the remaster coming separately but got no response. I was really polite as well for once. Ignorant twats.
Basically, discs forever.

Physical PS5 games I’ve got

Balan Wonderworld
Control Ultimate Edition
Immortals Fenyx Rising Gold Edition
The Pathless
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Resident Evil Village
Marvels Avengers
Marvels Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate Edition

I have a few PS4 games on disc that also got PS5 upgrades.

Physical FTW.

I can buy them cheap and resell for some money back. Also, I can borrow or lend my physical copy to my family to save them to buy the same game. Vice versa simple as.

You'll lose a lot of money on digital, in my opinion.

Your collection is well underway, OR! Returnal does looks neat but I'll be waiting for a lower price, too

Yeah, it is a wee bit odd. Ah, well, at least you can use the DualSense to play PS4 titles which I'm happy about!

Cool pick-up on R&C, Buff. Unfortunately that Amazon offer on Miles Morales Ultimate Edition has sold out now, dude.

This is something I need to explore, too. I'm sure I have a few PS4 games that grant the PS5 upgrade.

BOR, yes, I think it's usually cheaper to get the disc version. I like digital for convenience (and the lack of disc noise!) but pricing has turned me back to discs this gen.

I’ve got Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls on disc and that’s it. The drive’s really just there for rentals, tbh.
