It mightn’t be connected to the internet. It has to support the use case where someone has downloaded the encrypted firmware file to USB. And also, you don’t know what you’re going to be fixing. Maybe the last firmware broke the internal browser, or nuked the network connectivity. Maybe it’s fixing an exploit with the browser that lets someone hack their PS5. But I’m only speculating. The point is, they have such an overwhelming majority of the install base covered it’s not worth the resources to cover weirdos like jawa who own a PS5 but no smartphone.

Just to be clear here, I’m not saying it wasn’t better for the end user before. It is worse, undoubtedly. But as someone who has developed software for on-premise installation in the past, I can’t begin to describe how much easier my life got when we stopped bundling the entire help site in the release, and moved it off site to a cloud-based resource. I was just pointing out that their motivation isn’t that they fired the guy whose apparent full time job was to copy/paste firmware text once every 2 months.

Why don’t games come with manuals anymore? Why do very few games include the change lists for patches in the game
client itself? Because it’s more effort for little reward. Wasted effort, in most cases.

OK, good answer. Thank you.

This is a side issue, but I do find it annoying when a (console) game gets updated but there’s no information about what has changed. Even searching for the developer’s website/social media often gives nothing. I’d have thought Microsoft in particular, with their update bureaucracy, would make those details available to the user.

I gave the Stellar Blade demo a try and am I the only one here not getting the hype Sony are trying to put behind it? Felt like a bargain bin game you'd find in the 360/PS3 gen.

Fake edit yep its here. https://www.truetrophies.com/news/unobtainable-platinum-trophies-ps-store-spring-sale-2024

Will add you, and no worries I have no interest in buying these easy-to-get "platinum" trophies (not so easy that they cant be obtained anyway lol) as thats what killed achievement gathering for me. I feel more rewarded by picking up games I've not got 100% in and work towards that, as well from ones I enjoy. Think only platinum trophy-easy-to-get game I'd get is 112th Seed, its good platformer but I have that on Xbox anyway so I can play it there.

Still, strawberry floated up that platinum not being obtained from most games. I don't mean server shutdowns either - feels its a joke keeping them on the store.

Just ordered Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth from Argos as it's had a price cut and is now £35!

Have to wait until saturday before i can pick it up from the store, but considering the game was £60 back when i bought the PS5, it's a pretty good deal.

Probably won't start it until i finish Avatar, but at least i'll have it ready and waiting.

It’s taken them long enough, but streaming service ITVX has finally been added to PlayStation. This marks the first time ITV has had a streaming service on PlayStation since 2015 and the PS3.

I'm disappointed.

I loved it and I want more of Days Gone.

Ah well.

I’m ready for another infamous. I’d even settle for a remake of the first 2.

Bloody brilliant game that was when I played it 2 years ago. Time absolutely flew when I was playing it.

I guess the long development time means the game haven't earned any real profit? It is a disgrace that a sequel is not allowed by Sony. And nobody is wise what Bend Studios is working on now?

Apparently, Sony x Lego to make a Lego game.

Some sources suggested it is Lego Horizon.

Kind of crazy how the PS3 is a better multimedia box than the PS5 in terms of breadth of services.

* was. They needlessly deactivated most of the streaming services on PS3.

Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino will jointly succeed Jim Ryan as the CEOs of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Hulst is CEO of the newly named Studio Business Group, which includes all of PlayStation's first-party teams, plus covers the development of PlayStation IP onto other mediums, such as TV and film. Hulst was already head of PlayStation Studios. He was previously the co-founder of Horizon and Killzone developer Guerrilla Games, which was acquired by Sony in 2005.

Hideaki Nishino will lead the Platform Business Group, which includes console hardware, technology, accessories, PlayStation Network and third-party relations (covering major publishers and indie studios). He was already SVP of Platform Experiences. He's been part of the Sony business since 2006, holding numerous roles at Sony Network Entertainment, Sony Corporation and SIE.

Both leaders will report to Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Hiroki Totoki, who has been acting CEO of the division since Jim Ryan stepped down from the role at the end of March. Totoki is also president, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation. The latest changes will take effect from June 1st.

For interim CEO Hiroki Totoki, who will continue to serve as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s chairman, the future is looking bright. “Since I became Chairman in October 2023, I have been inspired by your enthusiasm, innovative approaches, and teamwork,” he said in an email to staff, which has been published publicly. “These values will serve us well as we embark on the exciting future for SIE.”

Totoki teased that Sony will reveal its long-term vision later this month, and that PlayStation will play a pivotal role in that. “As I mentioned previously, FY24 marks the start of the Mid-Range Plan period for Sony Group in which we will set the course for sustainable growth,” he said.

Sony are looking to initiate their "mid-range plan" and it is anticipated that PlayStation will be a key part of the drive for "sustainable growth".

Are Sony going to re-enter the handheld gaming market as well? It's weird with the constant rumours that Xbox are going to make a handheld (or hybrid system), Sony ditching the PSP/Vita before, they're now both seemingly going to make moves into the handheld market again, although Sony have kind of re-entered it with their take on the Wii U.

So Sony would have the PS5, PS5 Pro, PS Portal and then maybe a new PS handheld console.

It sometimes feels that Sony and Microsoft are more interested in the hardware side of things rather than actually making a consistent, steady flow of first party games, whereas Nintendo are the opposite based on the Switch, it could all switch around with the release of new hardware from everyone of course!
