PostRe: PlayStation Classic announced - 20 pre-loaded games (FFVII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, RR4...) - coming 03/12/2018 (£89.99

I was thinking about getting one of these than I stopped and though about it. Do i really need one? And the answer was no. I already own ps1 titles I liked and even have HD and remaster versions of some.

Have you actually been back and play some of the ps1 titles? Tomb raider for example is near on impossible to play after being gifted with moden controlls. Its not like the snes where everything is 2d and simple.

Its better off as a memory! Same goes for the inevitable N64 mini

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18
RACE | Devizes Half (April), Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

I do quite regularly, it's the arcade style games like Tekken 3, Ridge Racer 4, Wipeout 2097, ISS Pro, Tony Hawks, SoulBlade and Einhander that still control and play well.

Resident Evil and Tomb Raider take a while to adjust, Metal Gear Solid has aged better.

It's all down to marketing, most people are completely unaware of emulation and ports.

If Sony run a TV ad showing a montage of all the games with little snippets of classic tunes they'll sell like hotcakes.

Looks cool but it's an expensive stocking filler that looks nice on a shelf. I'd rather buy new games.

Unless it has MGS and Dino Crisis :shifty:

I wonder if they’ve got around the Gon licensing issue by using the Arcade version of Tekken 3 instead?

They used it in Tekken 5.

They're not near on impossible to play. I play PS1 games regularly and while I won't deny that some games take a little longer to adjust to after using modern controls you soon get back to controlling the likes of Tomb Raider etc with ease.

The Tekken 3 footage used in the trailer is clearly the PS1 version, which I'm more than happy with.

I just pray we don't get the PAL version, my friend had imported the NTSC version for his chipped PlayStation and I was jealous about how fast it was in comparison.

What's Sony's track record for things like this - when they've re-released PS1 games in the past have we had to settle for the PAL versions?

It will be interesting to see what they do with something like FFVII as well as that had quite a few changes from the original Japanese release to the US release, and then even more for the EU release.

I have a scar on my knuckles from punching my bed so hard during that. I will never play that again.

I also have yet to pass the training mission....

I want the UK version if Ape Escape, but it's never going to happen (especially as Sony are too cheap to add in analogue sticks).

As with Driver if they include it, there’s a lot of games from this era that are going to remind gamers new and old alike what it was like to get well and truly stuck. Every year Tomb Raider rolled around and you’d still be playing the bastard thing in April. It’s like they never ended.

When my Dad was in hospital the guy next to him had Tomb Raider 3 on his TV and I was mesmerised by how good he was at it. It’s like he was playing it properly, if that makes sense. The grace at which he mastered it still stays with me even all these years later.

Seen a number of people say they’re not pre ordering this until they know the full game line-up, which makes no sense to me. Why not just pre order it and then cancel later, rather than the other scenario of ‘I haven’t pre ordered and oh no it’s now sold out’.

What shops are going to bill you straight away?

IGN wrote:PLAYSTATION CLASSIC WILL NOT SEE POST-LAUNCH GAMES, HAS NO PSN FUNCTIONALITY

That, unfortunately, means no trophy support.

Speaking to IGN via email, a PlayStation spokesperson confirmed that the initial launch lineup will be the full catalogue for the PlayStation Classic.

"There are no plans to bring new content to PlayStation Classic post-launch," a PlayStation spokesperson said.

"The 20 titles launching with the PlayStation Classic were selected due to their popularity amongst original PlayStation fans," the spokesperson told IGN. "However, it is important to note that the title list is tailored to each region."

And as to whether the Classic would affect any plans for other remasters or consideration for the downloading of older games on the PS4 or on future systems, the spokesperson said "No, PlayStation Classic is a separate initiative from any ports or re-releases of older titles."

https://uk.ign.com/articles/2018/09/21/ ... ctionality

Disappointed about lack of Trophy support. Personally one game I hope is omitted from the European version and replaced with something else is Twisted Metal. The Americans seem to go crazy for that series, whereas here it was a complete nonentity.
