Ever put a Tekken 3 disc into a PS3? Horrendous interlacing, it's just a blurry mess and it's really off-putting.

I always played PS1 games on PS3 without the optional smoothing effects.

I liked the authentic crisp image complete with jaggies, though I'm glad they appear to be doing 720p upscaling.

Looking it up, it seems Tekken 3 uses a weird resolution that brings it closer to 480i, so it sounds like the PS3 doesn't deinterlace it especially well. That's usually a challenge with converting analog interlaced content into digital.

And yeah PS1 games are at too low a resolution for smoothing to be especially pleasing, might be more palatable at a higher res but I tend to prefer a sharp image also.

I'd adore THPS2, but between all the licensed music and Tony not being with Activision any more I don't see it. :-(

Between PS1, ps2 fat, ps2 super slim and back compatible PS3 (sometimes connected to a CRT via composite), I've no reason to get into this. Couple of the games on disk as well.

I had no idea what Wild Arms was until seeing the bits of footage in the announcement trailer and realising I've played it. Boy that fired some nostalgia neurons for me.

Initial concern, no Dualshocks. So no Ape Escape, which is extremely disappointing.

Further concerns, what exactly is going to be on this thing? A number of the big PS1 titles people immediately think of have been or are getting HD remasters, so including them here might count negatively towards the console's potential value proposition. I could see MGS and Tomb Raider making the list, perhaps one of the Wipeouts. If they do stay away from Crash and Spyro, maybe we could have a Tombi, Croc, or Rayman scratching the platformer itch instead. Ooo and something totally unexpected, say a forgotten oddity like Devil Dice.

In the "definitely not but here's hoping" category, they let the console connect to PSN via WiFi and sell you PS One Classics so you could expand the game library (also that they sell those games more cheaply).

It is powered by USB C and comes with a cable, so no need to buy an AC adapter :)

Looks like a remake of the original Japanese advert

It's frustrating that some manufacturers are not supplying power plugs... I don't think I have a USB plug so this'll be an extra purchase if I jump on board.

I'm afraid to say that, yeah, Sony has confirmed that games cannot be added on, Call.

A lot of TVs have USB powered sockets these days so it's probably why they've made the decision, saving them money and environmental waste in the process. It also means they could produce one product and not 4838382 different versions for each country which brings the cost of the product down beyond the cost of supplying a AC/DC converter.

I can't help thinking of Angry Joe's Corporate Boss character when reading that, BID0! "Lets get them to believe that not supplying a power adapter is for their benefit!" :-) .

Entirely unsurprising but still unfortunate, given Sony has the infrastructure in place to make that a reality. Ho hum.

I guess so  it's definitely for their benefit too, don't get me wrong. But when they make those kind of decisions it's based on their entire projected customer base, of which you're probably an outlier who doesn't own a TV with a USB output or a USB charger unfortunately.

Are Sony going to pull a Nintendo and change up the game selection for different regions? US might prefer a Madden title, whereas Europe would prefer FIFA or ISS. EA have re-released both before (Madden 93?) so that's another possibility.

A puzzle game with longevity seems like a must to me, such as Kula World, Devil Dice or Puzzle Bobble. 3D Lemmings would be my least preferred.

It's already been confirmed the Japanese lineup will differ to the Western lineup.

Also, all 5 games shown so far are Japanese, as this was announced as part of Tokyo Game Show.

Apparently Sony have put in preventative measures to avoid the scalping issue that plagued the NES Classic Mini launch including restricting orders to one per person and making pre-orders available as soon as it was announced.

USB makes me hopeful it's going to be hackable like the NES/SNES minis.
I think the biggest obstacle is going to be storage space.
