PostRe: PlayStation Classic announced - 20 pre-loaded games (FFVII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, RR4...) - coming 03/12/2018 (£89.99

This is all over my Facebook feed from friend's posts.

Providing they get the right games this is going to sell like crazy, everyone I knew in high school had a PlayStation and 102m sales say that this thing was pretty popular, so much nostalgia out their for the PS1.

D'aww, it's so adorable  Some cool hidden gem inclusions too in Jumping Flash and Wild Arms

Surprised they're going with 18 age rating, does free them up to include some of the system's most iconic games but you would've thought they'd be going for a family audience with this.

Oh wow, so the UI was different depending on what era of PS1 (and by extension firmware) you had? Had no idea about that, neat!

I disagree, this seems targeted at people in their late 20s/early 30s as a nostalgia bomb.

It's all about nostalgia, most people who were kids/teens when the PlayStation came out are in their 30s/40s now.

Aye sure, still I would've thought these also hold appeal as being cheap + easy to set up consoles for younger audiences, not to mention parents of that generation showing their kids games they grew up with. Maybe there'll be a parental control option

They added graphical effects when you put a music CD in (think Microsoft Windows Media Player) into the PSone. I don't know if it popped up in a previous model, but it wasn't there the first couple of years.

Would these games still receive an 18 rating today, I wonder? It says provisional so could drop to a 15.

The antiquated graphics means the violence doesn't really hold up or appear as shocking as it once did.

I for one can't wait to start showing my kids the games on the NES/SNES/PS1 minis. It'll be so cool to share my early gaming experiences with them

They'll probably be bored rigid :slol:

Did the older games have much swearing in?

Recent games like God of War, Resi 2 Remake and the upcoming Cyberpunk are full off banana splits, wankers and strawberry floats.

I dunno, GTA1 is still just as violent as it ever was, plus mowing down pedestrians is a bit more topical these days...

Hey, at least they enjoyed it and were able to play it. I've sucked at it for 20 years. :msgreen:

A lot of the games mentioned are going to look pretty ugly these days and I think that as important as the likes of Gran Turismo and Tomb Raider were, neither of them are going to be fun to play today in their original form for more than a few minutes. I think Parappa The Rapper is a great shout, really encapsulated that early PlayStation spirit. I’d put Micro Machines V3 on there too as another great game that probably hasn’t aged too badly.

Still on the 18 rating question - what about Alien Trilogy? I would love it if they put that on it.
