The PS1 startup is iconic, but it is not as great as the “SE-GA!” voice at the start of Megadrive Sonic the Hedgehog.

Did any games outside Sonic actually have this?

Saying that, you'd be hard pressed to find a MegaDrive owner who didn't have a single Sonic game in their collection.

The Mega Drive version of Jurassic Park had the T-Rex saying Sega, which as an 8 year old was incredible.

Sonic 3D on the Mega Drive also had a very aggressive shouting version of the SEGA! startup sound:

Worms - Incoming! Sticks in my head as well.

It's the start up theme one thinks.

That one is burned into my soul.

It’s probably worth its own thread, but some of the greatest gaming sounds are:

1. SE-GA!
2. PS1 startup
3. Super Mario Bros. theme tune
4. Pacman’s “wakka wakka wakka wakka”
5. Lemmings screaming “Oh no!”

Nice list, I'd add the DOOM shotgun sound in there. Oh and the Sonic ring collection sound!

Definitely room for a thread on this.

Wonder if they'll throw the T-Rex/Manta tech demo in there too

I still listen to these quite often as well, the manta ray one in particular is quite nice on a loop when I'm working

Feel free to start it!

The shotgun sound is a great one, if Sonic’s ring gets in (kennethwilliams.jpg) then so should Mario’s coin collection sound.

I also think in general that tech demo things like those are sorely missing on current (and even last) gen consoles.

On the PS1 it was like "all this 3d gaming stuff is brand new, check out what we can do!". So exciting at the time. Now it's just par for the course and there's no mystery about it.

VR has you covered

As did motion controls

And the 3DS

And half the Vita launch titles

Go for it, I'm on my phone at the moment and it would take ages to type and I'd want to find YouTube links to the sounds etc. which is way to fiddly a job to do on the phone!

Basically I'm lazy. :P

Any idea when the games get announced or will they announce a few at a time?

I'm really hoping for a THPS game and Syphon Filter.

I have been thinking about Demo One a lot recently and how that sums up my early Playstation experiances..... So I had to alter the Playstation Classic advert to put a little Demo One charm in it

Another one for my wishlist, the Japanese version of Ace Combat 3 complete with the anime cutscenes and extra missions.

There's a translated version available.

Have they seriously still not announced the full list of games? They're all 20 years old, for Christ's sake, get on with it.

Reckon one of the Worms games is an absolute must for this - I associate them with PS1 and you only need one controller for four players!

Maybe nothing, but I've noticed Tomb Raider 1 through 5, and Resident Evil Director's Cut, 2, and 3 have all had their prices dramatically slashed on the PlayStation Store to 99p (80% off) and £3.99 respectively.

Would Sony pull a surprise out of the bag and have "The Tomb Raider Collection" for example count as 1 game slot?

Surelyt if they want this to appear valuable they wouldn't fill it with games they're flogging for nothing on the PS Store.

Tomb Raider I and II are inconic PlayStation games though, so one of those would be on my 20.

I think I associate it more with PC, but I did spend weeks of my life playing it on PS1.

I'd love to see Worms: Armageddon on the PS Classic!

You youngsters, though... PS1 and PC? Worms is - and shall remain! - an Amiga creation :toot: .

Worms: Armageddon was my favourite, me and one of my friends spent hours on it on the Dreamcast
