kazanova_Frankenstein wrote:I lost a lot of interest when I started seeing numerous people on forums finding they were having to mess around with lighting etc to get the tracking working well. And these were the people who desperately wanted the experience to be good and 100% committed to the product. People having to switch on controllers after the headset, performing factory resets, opening / closing curtains, switching the TV on to use as an "anchor point".

This sort of stuff killed PSVR1 for me, and I don't experience any of these issues ever with Quest 2. Plus the controller batteries last about 80 hours and I don't need to put headphones on to enjoy it for a 30 minute session (which I have learnt is all I can really tolerate VR for).

If there was a big price cut I would still go for it, but all my real interest has evaporated for now. It has got me playing VR in general again though.

I couldn't believe what I was reading when I found reports of that stuff after launch. PSVR is/was such a horrible experience to set up that I barely used it. I would have expected psvr2 to be a litteral plug and play at this point. My pc vr set up is as easy as turn the sockets which have the sensors attached to on at the wall, then plug the headset in - nothing more and it's perfect every single time. I don't use my monitor at all when using it (in fact it's not even facing my racing chair) so if I'd have gone for this for gt7, it sounds like I'd have had to move the monitor to face the headset to help with tracking :fp:

I have read about a few setup issues, but I'm wondering if perhaps they've been exaggerated a little? It'd be cool to hear from any GRcadian who has used the kit for their view :-).

I hold GRcadians in far lower regard than "full on randoms".

I think if you have wallpaper and a patterned carpet you’ll get flawless tracking, but I had to put the tracking support on, because there is so little in my living room for it to use as a reference for drift correction. I also believe having the TV on without the tracking support can confuse it more than having the TV off entirely if your TV has no bevels like mine, because the image on screen is moving.

The drift only applies when you’re sitting still, mind you. Moving about isn’t ever a problem but sitting in the VR showroom in GT7 or playing Moss the world drifts because there’s so little going on with the accelerometers and gyros that the margin for error vs the actual movement is massive.

Best pal up with the local curry house then.

It's really not good enough, Quest is flawless and is several years old now.

A strong viewpoint from a member of the PushSquare team about the launch of PSVR 2. I kinda agree with some points - it does feel like Sony did very little in terms of promoting the kit or delivering "must have" games - but it's still very early days; plenty of time to ramp things up, both in terms of marketing and software.

I haven't had any issues with tracking or drift. It's leagues ahead of the original PSVR in that regard. Haven't used Oculus etc. so can't say how it compares but I haven't had any complaints with it.

Nice to hear that the tracking has been fine for you, sawyer. I do like the look of that feature where you can digitally "mark out" your room and set up boundaries.

That price needs to come down for me to jump in. Not because the tech does not warrant it, just that it's not worth it to me.
Software attach rates were crazy high for PSVR1 owners (and I know I bought huge amounts), hopefully Sony can use this as leverage to bring the price down for new punters, and chuck in a couple of keys for those who have already taken the plunge.

Sony have revealed sales figures for PSVR2 up until the start of April, and it's tracking above the original at the same point in time. Not sure how it's doing now, but it is also available at general retail.

Image

Bloomberg reported earlier in the year that research firm IDC had estimated that it would sell around 270,000 units by the end of March, so it's way above that:

BC is the king piece for me. I need HL:Alyx on it especially. Once those are in place I'd bite.

It wouldn’t have done half the numbers if GT7 wasn’t so incredible.

I’ve been growing a bit fatigued with Tears of the Kingdom this week so I decided to go for something completely different this evening and dusted off this waste of money for something shallow and quick.

I had the strawberry floating time of my life. A few rounds of Walkabout Minigolf with some American dude before finally getting to try out Beat Saber. Both exceptional. Played for 3 hours straight.

Guys I think VR might actually be really good?

 . I tend to get that feeling whenever I set up my PSVR. It'd not something that I play too often but, when I do, I always get the feeling "dang, this is impressive!".

Quite a few games announced today for the Quest that are also coming to the PSVR2, including Bulletstorm VR and a Vampire: Masquerade game. Possibly also a 7th Guest game (hadn't heard of that name in a while!) but I can't find confirmation that this will be on PS.
