Here's my problem.
I had a PS4 with an upgraded internal hdd that I decided I wanted to use as extra storage space on my One X so I decided to put my old original HDD back in but now it doesn't recognise it and keeps asking for the bloody firmware but I can't format anything to fat 32 because I don't have a PC and because I'm an idiot.
The thing would work fine if I could just get the bloody firmware on it is there any other way to restart a PS4 drive and maybe just get it to format the strawberry floating disk so it just start up?

Peter, to the best of my knowledge you will need access to a computer (PC or Mac) to download the necessary software onto a USB stick - unless you can ask someone to do the download for you and transfer it onto a USB (in line with the guidance below), of course.

Click here to view the Sony page from which you can download the core system driver (circa 955 Mb) i.e. not just the latest system software update. It has install instructions on that page too.

You must know someone who can stick it on a USB for you, surely? Or have access to another PC?

I have a laptop but it's a mighty Chromebook.

If you want, I can stick the required download on a USB stick and mail it to you? I'm sure I can borrow a low capacity thumbdrive from work without anyone missing it. PM me your address if you're interested.

Saint saves the day with a pen drive with the firmware on it and my PS4 is now working again as a back-up blue ray drive and games machine :toot: :toot: :toot: .

Top stuff  .

It’s terrific to hear a story of a GRcadian going the extra mile to aid a fellow forumite... Saint’s “above and beyond” assistance has put a smile back on Peter’s face :toot: .
