I really struggle with American podcasts in general, but I find retronauts a real slog despite loving the subject matter and the amount of detail they go in to. All the "Oh jeez!" "My goodness!" "Maybe we should all go and hunt some giant apes! I'm joking, please don't go and harm any animals". The worst thing they do is retroactively put what they were thinking in to playing a game for the first time. "I remember seeing peach's castle for the first time and thinking oh wow, I really like the way you've laid out this area for me to practice my moveset but also appreciate the respect you're giving me as a player to discover what I want to be doing here before I choose when to proceed" No you strawberry floating didn't think that :fp:

I read that in an annoying American voice and it fit perfectly

Just finished episode 1 of this, really enjoyed it and I'm already looking forward to seeing where the adventures of Merle, Taako and Magnus go from here. Thanks for sharing Taf, I'd probably never have stumbled upon it myself.

Having also just finished season 1 of Stranger Things I can really visualise them all sat in a basement playing D&D, and now I imagine their dad looking like Mike's dad

Does make me somewhat melancholic that I don't have a group of friends that I could sit and play a proper session of D&D with, I've never played it before but would love to give it a go, but sadly foreveralone.jpg :(

I'm getting towards the end of their first (3 year) campaign now and it's just super, super good. I'd be lying if I said it hadn't made me cry on a few occassions. Once they're done with the initial, out-of-the-book mission it gets real, real good real, real fast.

Stick with it! Glad to be of service!

Pro-tip: if you search for fan-art, search carefully. Lot's of spoilers about and you do not want to be spoiled.

I have no interest in fan art so don't worry about that

I found it to be the same. Couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of the ep I tried.

Do you need to know anything about D&D to be able to follow this?

Absolutely not. They're all D&D newbies and explain stuff as they go along. Unlike pretty much every other D&D playthrough I've listened to they also sideline the mechanics for the story and characters, which was an excellent idea.

Good stuff. It starts getting really great around Episode 7, though it's still good before then.

I've just listened to the first half hour of Ep1. Hilarious.

I was in at 'Taco the Wizard'

I tried to get into that podcast a few months ago but I really can't stand Justin McElroy's annoying tubby American geek voice.

Yeah I know what you mean, but in my head he’s the older version of Dustin from Stranger Things so it fits for me.
