I've done a lot of that too! I remember parking the car somewhere nice and just listening. They've probably been ripped to mp3s now, would be good as podcasts.

Did this with GTA 3 and Vice, especially if it was raining. I'd park up on a pier and listen to talk radio. It was amazing at the time.

In open world games I almost always put off exploring new areas unless explicitly ordered to by the story or until I'm sure I've squeezed every inch of life from the area I'm in. I resisted this a bit with BoTW but now I've uncovered half the map I'm loathe to uncover the rest as I'm worried the game will go downhill from there.

I am the exact opposite. I will ignore the main storyline as much as possible until I have uncovered or viewed as much of the map as possible.

With an Assassins Creed game, I will spend my time wandering around looking for the viewpoints before doing missions or doing the minimum amount of missions to unlock the whole map. I am not sure it is pointless though as it unlocks the fast travel options and shows where other stuff is which is helpful when I actually start the missions proper.

This is exactly how I always approach open world games

Oh don't get me wrong, I'll rarely concentrate on the main quest. However I often try and 'save the best bits for last' and this means I'll delay exploration.

Until eventually the credits roll and all that happened is a rare item took inventory space the whole time

I too take a similar approach. Since I rarely replay games or go back to them after finishing them I need to do the side quests first otherwise they just wouldn't get done.

Even worse is when games like SMT4 has a limit on the items you can hold, so you have to start leaving Somas behind

I almost reloaded a save to go back to the boss before to use one for no reason just so I wouldn't have to leave it in a hard to reach place

Bonus points if the powerful item doesn't scale so it becomes worthless 1/3 of the way through.

I like to turn on taps, flush toilets and turn on showers in any game that has them. No particular reason why, but I guess I like to see if the developers put the effort in.

The Drake Sword in Dark Souls is the perfect example of that.

In Sleeping Dogs I would take random NPCs, put them in the boot of my car and drive them somewhere. If I remember correctly, this feature wasn't even necessary in any case and is unique to just this one game.

I can also attest to pulling up somewhere scenic and listening to the radio in several GTA titles, especially IV and V.
