Aside from the obvious Gary Oldman gif, is there something you always do in games that has very little point to it.

As an example, I will always jump down stairs. Doesn't matter what the game is, I've no idea why, it probably isn't quicker, it sometimes does damage to my character (particularly in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but I can't help it.

I also always call my generated character Cyril, irrelevant of the genre.

I walk a lot in open world games.

I’d wander about in the Witcher 3 walking, same with AC Origins and countless other games. It breaks the realism for me if I’m non stop running.

Where possible, I go into the settings first before starting the game proper.

I have to do that anyway to invert the Y axis.

I tend to pick up absolutely everything of value whether I really need it or not. I have spent more time in Bethesda games crawling back to the nearest settlement to sell/stash my loot than I care to mention. I just can't leave anything behind. I've had to turn on a loot filter in Titan Quest to filter out non enchanted items as I was making far too many trips back to town and not really getting anywhere for ages.

Just sit in the car or aimlessly drive around listening to the music, achieving nothing. An hour then passes and you're angry with yourself that you've achieved nothing.

I spent forever just listening to the talk radio stations in GTA: Vice City, no GTA game since has come close to having such a good line up of shows.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I can vaguely remember the one where the guy rings in thinking he's Thor.

In Zelda games I'll always pick up rupees (or other drops) when I'm already full-up.

Inventory management in every game ever.

I hate long item lists and much prefer the old fashioned visual representation of items and can spend ages just grouping similar items in a backpack. The classic case was the old Resident Evil inventory screen where placement of items was everything as you could make precious extra space just by placement.

"All the bunnies are stabbing each other!"

I was also rather fond of KChat's interview with a feminist who the host called Michaela Crapper.

If there is a mirror I will try to look into it to see how much effort the developers have put into the game. If it is a game with weapons, I will try to destroy the mirror for the same reason as above.

As per opening post, jumping up and down stairs is also an essential part of the experience for me.

Yes?

In Broken Sword 1 I stayed in the pub ordering beers, slowly getting George drunk and just listening to the music. I thought that was absolutely brilliant at the time. Its mundanity really connecting you to the world.

I completed Mafia 2 without speeding or running anywhere unless a mission required it (car chase, etc). It just didn't feel right to speed around like GTA because the game was just dripping with so much atmosphere
