Buddy system is now live.

It's ok but like all the tiny changes its still too little too late for many people.

I'm at 300 magikarp candies so almost there. Not caught anything new for a few days either.

Wish they'd introduce generation 2 Pokemon , battles and trading.

Wish my image sig would work

That's a lot of Km for 1 candy!

Still just about enjoying this but it seems most of the game is now walking to hatch eggs, though when I went away for the weekend there were different Pokémon to catch which was pretty useful.

Went off the beaten track in Brighton and there was hardly anything. There was also literally nothing in rural France. They could at least do some randomised stuff.

Tonnes in central though. You can hardly walk for pokestops because almost every piece of graffiti or bus stop is tagged.

Jesus Christ just realised the delivery address for my Plus is wrong and it's been sent next door to the new neighbours who don't know my name  :fp:

Looks like they are arriving early. :)

Hopefully your neighbours don't tear open packages and play pokemon go. It'll be fine, they'll want to be good new neighbours. ...

The Plus is already selling on eBay for up to double the money and beyond.

"received today in hand now! Official from Nintendo.co.uk!"

What a bunch of banana splits.

Vibrates and the button flashes green when there's a Pokemon nearby. You press the button and it flashes white and vibrates three times and if you get a successful catch it flashes with a rainbow affect. Hasn't happened yet but apparently if you fail to catch something it just flashes red. It sends you a push notification every time you catch something. Haven't been to a Pokestop yet but the weather is nice to I might go out for a walk after dinner to see what happens and how good the tracking is.

Does it count distance with the screen off?

Haven't checked yet but everyone on reddit that has it says it does count distance towards egg tracking and buddy candy despite what the official site says.

Caught a Blastoise today in Newcastle. Low level but not too bothered.

Each update seems to make more rare Pokemon appear.

Preordered while there was still stock on the Nintendo Store for 35 snoops. Sold out everywhere now.

They will manufacture more I'm sure but I'm pretty certain the scarcity is going to drive the price up as Nintendo don't set prices for retailers.

It was nice to see it is actually a Nintendo piece of hardware and it has all the same hallmarks of quality. The build is nice with a little weight to it. Simple touches like the screw being held in on both the watch and clip cover, just losen it slightly with a small screwdriver and it pops off. The battery is a a little water protected with a silicone seal, and it's a large lithium coin one that are inexpensive to replace. It is meant to use Bluetooth 4 in very low power mode, which means limited range but minimal current draw. When it's basically an arduino type device with one RGB I don't see battery life being an issue unlike a smart watch.

There was a little fiddling and on/offing to get it working with my partner's Sony Z1 compact, but it works fine. I think this was mostly to Sony's interfering with the android menus. It was easy to re-pair the device after testing it myself (of course) on mine which I didn't even need to read the instructions for.

The first pokemon that showed up had an unrelated "there was an error" in the app (where pokemon just disappear), resulting in a red flash, but so far it seems to work.

Its one button operation is pretty clever and the light button feels nice and clicky with a matt texture a bit like a roll on deodorant (I've always weirdly likes that, in this case it acts as a light diffuser). The light seems to have been well considered, it's a pleasing subtle glow, nothing glaring that pulsates softly. Nothing like a big flashy led in a cheap toy. The vibration is just like a phone and it doesn't rattle at all. It's tightly built, with that glossy well moulded Nintendo on the back just console hardware. The code is "DOL-PMC-001" - marking it as a proper sku not some cheap licensed toy.

It's nice to see Nintendo make a serious piece of wearable electronics that's good quality and simple to use. Hopefully there aren't too many bugs in the app when working with it.

On Android (as per Google rules) it keeps a notification item open so you know it's running, and you can forget about the app in theory. This way it just uses GPS (which uses little power anyway - it's all low power infrared) and your mobile data connection. Hopefully this will solve battery issues for big fans. You can turn this on and off by going into the app and tapping a pokemon go icon that overlays the main view, or just turn off Bluetooth.

Overall it seems a nice augmented experience seeing as the app itself is free and it will probably hold value unless they manufacture 500,000 of them anytime soon. I think this marks an interesting step in Nintendo's mobile strategy and I wonder what they're going to do in the future.

I went for a 6km run today and it only registered about 2.5km. My pace was about 5:20/km.

Yesterday I accidentally left the app running whilst at work. The gps is a bit sketchy in the building, but it registered about 2km in an hour of it being still on my desk.

They need to sort out the gps tracking on this.

Kind of annoying that you need a screwdriver if you want to use the wrist strap.
