Game Freak killed a guy and put the body there to generate publicity for Pokemon Go. Follow the money, sheeple.

It's fun to see the stealth "marketing as news story" machine cranking up for this game.

Just a shame that there doesn't seem to be more too it. I'm not fussed, though I am annoyed that people playing it early in the UK are potentially going to snag all the gyms and stuff like that before it officially launches.

Yeah, someone's already done that around the corner from my house. I mean the place (ruins in park) is practically our back garden. :x

My local Wetherspoons is a gym. There was four of us in our group tonight sitting at the table messing about on it

Teen plays 'Pokémon Go,' discovers dead body in Wyoming river

A teenager living in Riverton, Wyoming, reportedly discovered a dead body in a river Friday morning while playing Pokémon Go.

According to County 10, Shayla Wiggins was trying to catch some Pokémon from a natural water source at around 8:40am when she jumped a fence to get closer to the Wind River. Wiggins saw something in the water as she walked closer to a bridge along the shore. She did a double take, but she says it looked to be a man's body floating.

"It was pretty shocking," she told County 10. "I didn't really know what to do at first. But I called 911 right away, and they came really quickly."

The investigation is still ongoing, but the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office told County 10, "The death appears to be accidental in nature and possibly that of a drowning. There is no evidence at this time that would indicate foul play. Evidence located at the scene has led investigators to believe the man went into the water at the location he was found.”

Wiggins was reportedly a little shaken up from her discovery.

The Daily Dot has reached out to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Riverton Police Department and will update the story with any additional information.

Hope she found some ghost types.

That would be so awkward if you were out in the middle of nowhere, then became a suspect in a murder case for "finding" the body and your alibi was because you were on a Pokemon adventure

I wonder if the accidental nature of the death was because the guy was trying to catch Pokemon too

Went out for a walk with this. Caught a few pokemon in the first 5 minutes and then nothing for the rest of the time which was piss. Passed a load of poke-stop things which didn't seem to do anything. There's also 3 gyms in about a 100m radius in town.
Buggy and boring as strawberry float though. Don't think I'll be going back to it.

I was in the centre of town earlier, and this works much better when you're somewhere busy. Lots of 'Mon to catch and a decent number of points to collect Pokéballs. Evolved a pidgey into a pidgeyot.

It's still pretty buggy, though. I was stood on top of a rustling patch of grass where you're supposed to find pokémon for ages, and nothing appeared, then later I used a few balls to catch another, and after finally getting it, it just returned to the map, and the creature wasn't in my inventory at all.

I might give this a bit longer to see how I get on with it, especially if they patch the bugs out.

I've managed to catch a few Pokémon from inside my house today :toot: I'm looking forward to seeing what appears in the wild when I go out tomorrow and then to work during the week. Someone at work had a Psyduck on his keyboard on Friday :P

There seem to be a couple of gyms down the road from me so I'll try to check them out tomorrow. Just catching Pokémon in the real world (well, the illusion of doing so) is fuelling my interest in this app. Battling in gyms and against other people could just be the icing on an already enticing cake. I've heard mixed things about this but I was never expecting it to be as robust as something like Pokémon Y so maybe I'll have a more positive view.

I'm excited! :toot:

Oh yeah, the game is also terrible at explaining how it works. I assume the narrowing circle around a pokémon when you throw a ball at it is supposed to affect how likely it is to catch it, but I can't work out whether it's supposed to be nearer a closed or full circle. Also, I've no idea what selecting a particular pokémon in the nearby menu does. I'd assumed it would guide you towards it, but there's no visible guide on the screen as far as I could see.

I assumed that a bigger circle would mean that there's a greater chance to catch the Pokémon and it seems to be working so far.

It does, but if it is small it can earn you more XP.

If you press and hold the ball before throwing the circle will change size, you can also draw a cirle while holding the ball that will cause it to spin which if can get you a spin bonus to the throw.

No, it was supposed to launch this weekend but has been delayed due to server issues.

Would you really want to play without the likes of Caterpie and Weedle though?

Busy was probably the wrong word, I meant more densely populated with things to do. Like I said, there were many more creatures and pokéspots to find. I actually managed to catch five or six 'mon just sat in a branch of Nero. Before that, the idea of having to catch multiple of the same pokémon just to evolve them seemed ridiculous, because I was seeing so few around, but when they're more concentrated like that, it doesn't seem as bad an idea. It's nice that some wild Pokémon also seem to be partially leveled up as well.

I already have a Weedle, though.

EDIT: gooseberry fool, I just got the joke as I posted that. :fp:

It's only a matter of time until the real life Team Rocket appears who go around forcing people to trade their best Pokémon with them. Who wants to be my Jessie?
