PostPS4 and Xbox One are HDMI only
by NickSCFC » Sun Feb 24, 2013 10:54 am

Stemming from the Dual Shock 4 thread and the inclusion of AV out on the PS4, should consoles still come with composite cables instead of HDMI?

Even in 2013 not everyone has a HDTV, but I find it more frightening when I see people with HDTVs ignorantly playing their games in SD out of ignorance.

Not only, should come with both rather than one or the other.

The current gen should have had them as standard, the next gen certainly should.

Considering 99% of people buying a PS4 at launch will have a HDTV, wouldn't this be a waste for Sony?

Are there any polls/stats for HDTV ownership in the UK?

I'd rather they have VGA or something, why should I have to pay out just because my monitor does everything but HDMI?

Because you're in a tiny minority, along with those who don't have a HDMI TV.

So for the sake of saving £1 per console others should lose out? Silly.

They should have both. Choice is good.

Or you could stop being a pikey and get a HDTV :shifty:

Funny story, once had an argument with a mate who insisted that Sky HD looked better than Blu-ray, I actually believed he was going blind until I visited his house and found out he had his PS3 hooked up to his TV via composite, everything looked like it was on fire, this was a 40" 1080p set too :fp:

You see, the thing is, composite cables work with pretty much 100% of TVs. HDMI cables don't. You give somebody a composite cable, and they can hook the system up and start using it until they get a better cable. The image quality will be dogshit, but it will work. Give them just an HDMI cable, and their TV doesn't have HDMI, then they can't do a damn thing with their console until they buy a new cable.

These people are in a small minority though, MCN, as I stated above many people are using inferior cables on HDTVs to accommodate these pikeys.

They may be in a minority, but they still exist. Maybe you should look to blame the idiots using composite when they are perfectly capable of using HDMI, rather than those who don't have HDMI at all.

And less of the pikey gooseberry fool, please. It makes you look like an arrogant, snobbish banana split.

If they're to include an SD cable, could they not have it be RGB instead of composite? :P

It's not just consoles that don't come with a seemingly obligatory HDMI cable. The Apple TV comes with no AV cable at all for instance, as did a Blu-Ray player I bought for my parents last year. It's not so terrible as they only cost a couple of quid, just weird.

As for RGB that just presents the same problem, alot of LED TVs don't have a SCART socket.

Yeah most Blu-ray/DVD players don't have the cable supplied, the shop bundles them for an extra cost.

There should be two cables in the box. HDMI and Composite (which is also usually supplied with a SCART adaptor).

But the cable is one of the few things - particularly in Sony's case - where they can make some extra money by selling it separately. I think the official PS3 HDMI cable is about £10.

My 360 Elite came with one. I was a little "wtf" when my PS3 did not, I had assumed every modern console (bar the Wii) would have included one, especially since this was the PS3 slim and HD had become the standard by then.

Maybe, but on the other hand there are still plenty of people who don't realise this and obliviously play their HD games in SD. :dread:
