Parksey wrote:know it's hard to look at precedent when you've only got one game in the spin-off series, but I thought Legends was going to be revisiting regions in the past. The urban redevelopment stuff, plus the name riffing on Pokémon Z, suggests it's going to be set after X/Y. There is scope for them to go back into 1920s Art Deco-style Paris, I guess. Or maybe, because Arceus' visuals were reminiscent of Japanese ukiyo-e prints, they could go for an 1880s Impressionist vibe with Z-A's graphics.

The region definitely needs fleshing out, but wondering how much it will differ from Arceus. The focus seems to be on the Parisian cityscape rather than the undeveloped wilds and I wonder how that will work with the Legends gameplay loop.

It's also interesting to see how they are picking the Legends regions - Johto, with it's ties to historical Kansai in Japan - would have been an obvious pick (perhaps too similar to Arceus, mind). Again, they are going to be picking a region that will be getting a remake relatively close by time-wise (presuming that Gen VI remakes follow the cycle and will be around 2027).

Interested to see he first gameplay trailer, to see how much it differs from it's predecessor.

In terms of starters, I definitely think Snivy matches the vibe of Paris. None of the Arceus starters were from the Gen IV games, so if we are playing Starter Bingo, maybe Snivy as a snooty fashionista, Torchic has a high-kicking Moulin Rogue can-can dancer and the Sobble as a tortured, emotional artist.

No Empoleon as Napoleon vibe for the water starter if they pick them from other regions?

Oh, yeah, that would be a very obvious pick and I feel ashamed to have missed it.

To be honest I think if they go down the different region starters, we can rule out gen 6 (obviously) and the gen 1 starters as well, as in XY, they were in the Dex and had a mega evolution. Personally I'd like,

- Chikorita, Meganium has been one of my favourites since Gold, would love to see it get a much needed buff via a Mega/new typing.
- Scorbunny, like the UK, France has a decent football following.
- Piplip, mainly as what I said before, it fits with the French theme, plus, one of the best water starters they've done, the only one I've chosen.

I love seeing all the people complaining that they've skipped Unova, when they seem to forget that this is just a legends game and with the legends games they skipped gen 1, 2, 3 and started with 4.

They're likely working on an Unova remake but probably want it to be a fully fledged title rather than a Legends one to start and rather than have a Legends one and a remake in the same generation they're splitting them up. Honestly I played through Shining Pearl but after 100%ing Arceus there wasn't really a need for me to at all, I'd already finished the dex lol

I find the Legends to be a much more interesting way of revisiting a region than a straight up remake, will remakes still form a part of the 3 game structure they seem to be pushing now? Yeah, but if anything, the team being more ambitious with a Legends game, makes me think remakes will be more faithful than what we’ve got in the past with HGSS and ORAS (still never played FRLG :( ), which were fantastic.

My main complaint isn’t that they’re missing Gen 5 remakes, more that we still don’t have any of Gen 1-3 on the Switch eshop :capnscotty: I must be missing something obvious as to why they’re not getting put on the system, surely they could sell them individually/packs on the eshop rather than being forced to use the apps, which wouldn’t make them as much money.

It’s going to be a long year waiting for anymore information on this, slim chance we get some news at the Presents around the World Championships, if they do one of course. Even if this is going to be our November 2025, we’ll need some gameplay in the February presents in 2025.

Leaf Green/Fire Red on Switch with all the events unlocked at Sevii Islands would be delightful.

It would be brilliant, but it won’t happen, weird thing is I just don’t understand why?

I believe save states were disabled/limited on the 3DS versions, so they could do the same for Switch versions. The 3DS versions had Bank access, so they should be able to get them working with Home. The 3DS versions were paid, not via the Apps (granted the apps weren’t available on the 3DS, but getting access to 12 games of this size would be too good to be true to be put on the apps), so they could charge for them again on the Switch. Cloud saves have never been a thing for the new games on Switch, so no one would be expecting cloud saves on these games. Are they worried that on the Switch, they may only be able make people buy the games one more time, if Nintendo produce a miracle and actually let us download bought digital games on the Switch 2? As much as I can remember, the VC games sold really well on the 3DS, always in the charts, I can’t see it’d be much different on the Switch.

As you can tell, it’s really annoying me, as I just can’t figure out why they’re not porting them

Nintendo released a collection of 3D Mario games on Switch which didn't include Mario Galaxy 2, the best one. You can never predict what they'll do.

Can’t help but think this is more to do with Game Freak rather than Nintendo, unless they are trying to mandate the games come to the apps? But surely they could just add another tier NSO+ plus Pokémon?

It's 100% gamefreak. I would assume the issue is they're working out how to get them to a) work online to allow trading and what not b) how to get them to interface with Home - for bank you had to use a seperate transporter app to get it to work. Development wise I'd guess that's why it's taking time.

The previous VC versions on the 3DS only had local trading didn’t they? I don’t see why they couldn’t cut out Transporter and just let Home access the current active box on? I really do hope it’s a case of when and not if they come to the Switch, this year would have been ideal with new mainline games taking a well needed year off.

If they want to have them like the NSO titles they need online trading. Also without Online Trading it'd kinda suck to try and finish the dex.

Obviously a statistic that we’ll never know, but I do wonder how many people completed the dex on the Gen 1 or 2 games on the VC. Imagine there was a lot like myself, who bought them just to play the older games again rather than chase the Dex like on release, alongside chasing that nostalgia hit.

Although I have no idea how long it takes them to port something, even from the 3DS VC, when the project has been given the go ahead. They took their time bringing them to the 3DS eshop as well, came out in 2016 or 2017?
