It should be fairly close but there's new things like:

New Pokédex, more likely - it may match Ruby/Sapphire in exclusives wise but we do see Bunneary's evo, Lopunny having mega evolve so it's fair to assume there'll be non-Hoenn native Pokémon in new Pokedex
Gym Leaders may or may not have updated teams
Same with Elite Four (plus it looks like some of them can Mega Evolve)
TMs will be changed from originals to remakes to reflect same TM list from X/Y
How useful Pokemon will be in story team now Physical/Special split will be a thing, plus new level-up movelists & TMs being unlimited
HMs might change. Flash/RockSmash is in TM form, but no idea what will happen to 'Dive' move.
Locations of megastones

You could run through Ruby/Sapphire (not Emerald) to do draft then finalise it with OR/AS?

They'll probably change the routes a bit, and the pokemon gym leaders probably will have their rosters changed, plus the Elite 4/Champion as well.

Someone who's already written a guide for the old GBA games has offered me free use of their guide for the remakes. Just trying to gauge how much work will be needed to at least get the 'story' guide eBook ready in time for Xmas...

Does anyone know if these will have English language options when they come out in Japan (Pokemon X/Y did, but they are pretty much the only 3DS games to have that option).

I thought the split between physical/special stats was already in the original Ruby/Sapphire?

Correct me if I'm wrong - as I recall, by Gen 3, they split 'Special' into Special Attack and Special Defence, but moves were still automatically Physical or Special based on type i.e. all Water moves were Special, all Fighting moves were Physical, etc.

Yeah I think that is correct. The actually physical/special split (with the icon next to each move) came in Diamond/Pearl, I think.

It was Gen 2 that Special was seperated into Sp.Atk/Sp.Def, while it was Gen 4 that introduced Physical/Special split.

Gen 3 did huge change on metagame, though - IVs changes, additional of Natures, EV changes, also additional of abilities.

New Mega Pokemon confirmed!

The first images for this month have started to appear. In this image, from the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday, it confirms that, in next month's issue of CoroCoro, due out on October 15th, a special serial code will be given. This Serial Code offers you a trial version of Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire which appears to have you pick between Grovyle, Combusken & Marshtomp and ends with the obtaining of a Mega Evolution. We'll bring more on this as it comes
Edit @ 09:33: Mega Gallade revealed
Edit @ 09:39: Mega Sharpedo & Mega Camerupt have also been confirmed. Mega Sharpedo has the ability Strong Jaw while Mega Camerupt has Sheer Force
Edit @ 09:46: Primal Kyogre has a new ability called Sea of Beginnings and Primal Groudon has a new ability called Land of Endings. They activate what is called Strong Rain and Strong Sunlight respectively. It is not known how different this is to normal. Primal Groudon's new move is called Cliff's Blade
Edit @ 09:49: Mega Camerupts Speed is decreased, but every other stat is increased while all of Sharpedo's stats get an increase

Not long finished Pokémon X but I can't wait for this, the series just never gets old. Will have to clear some of my backlog to make room for another 100+ hours of awesomeness....bring it on!!!!

Really tempted to go for the steelbook edition from the official Nintendo store. Has anyone here ever used the official store before? What's it like?

Incorrect. Any type could be physical or special.
For example water, surf is special but Waterfall is physical. For electric Volt Tackle is physical but Thunderbolt is Special. Fire Punch is physical but Flamethrower special etc.

Not in Gen 3. The type decides what kind it is, all Water-type moves are special, whilst all Ghost are physical (which is why Gengar wasn't strong as he lacked STAB in first three gens). Gen 4 is what you've described though as that's one which introduces Physical/Special Split.

They're good. I think they use Yodel. Got the Luigi 3DS from them and it turned up pretty quick. I've ordered the Sapphire steelbook. Won't get much cheaper than RRP for a new copy and you get the figure and with it being a special edition likely will retain, if not increase it's value with time if you decide to sell it on..

EDIT - also I think it's safe to say that this gen 3 remastering will retain the physical/special aspect of the games as has been since D/P

Will they ship the steel books abroad? Or are Nintendo of Japan doing a similar thing?

Never said it won't be, I meant Gen 3 didn't introduced Physical/Special, Gen 4 did. This remaster will obviously have the system.

I am so lost here. I need GRcade's help on important things like which Pokemon game to buy.

It isn't my fault you keep coming into Japanese game topics and polluting it with your xenophobic comments. You are like this thread's, Cal. That's it, I've had enough, I am sticking a [DISCUSSION] tag on this.

I'm going to do a large scale update to the OP at some point over the weekend when I've got an hour or two spare. Bear with me.

Just wondering, does the official nintendo store take payment for preorders straight away, or do they take it when they ship the item?
