They must have the hardware to support it these days.

Pokémon XD remains one of the most underappreciated games of all time. Granted, it was basically the opposite of open-world.

Yesss put Magikarp in the Pokeball Plus this morning before I left, just transferred it back and it's gained enough levels to evolve to Gyarados :datass:

Put about 10 hours into it so far and just got the 3rd badge. I was skeptical at first as a hard core pokefan but I have to say. I'm loving it! Really bringing back the memories. This is what it looked like in my head when I was playing yellow on my GBC when I was 10.

Although I play pokemon go and understand how those candies work I'm still trying to get my head around how let's go candies work?

I've yet to delve into the candy system yet, I'm guessing the Pikachu ones (or Eevee in LG Eevee) just raise all of your partner's stats, whereas the others only raise one, do the size mean they gain more? Or does it just level up by feeding it X number of candies in total?

you feed them to a pokemon and it raises a stat

In go the candies relate to a specific monster, in let’s go, they relate to a specific stat.

I think the stat they relate to is similar to the old stat buffing method (was it called EV farming or something?). It was invisible, but used to be that beating a Pokemon with strong Defense (like Geodude) would boost your Defense. I think the same applies, but more transparently in the candies you gain from different monsters.

On that basis I’ll assume a geodude gives a defense one.

All candy (bar species candy) gives a stat +1, regardless of size. But the more you use one type of candy, the more candy it costs to increase the stat.

For example, increasing Pikachu's HP by 1 will cost one Health Candy. Then +1 again will cost two candies. Then +1 will cost three candies. And so forth.

But at Lvl. 30, you can start giving Pikachu some Health Candy L. It will still give +1 stat, but the cost starts again at one candy, increasing with each use.

Then at Lvl. 60, you can use Health Candy XL, which again resets the cost.

So basically, they're all the same, but the larger ones are there to reset the counter, so you're not using 50 candies for one stat point by the end.

Cheers for the in depth answer! :)

What's the maximum you can increase a stat by then? Is it 64 so the same as EV training? Can you increase every stat or should you focus on a couple (again, like EV training)?

I'm afraid I haven't gone that in depth yet (surprisingly! ) so I can't say if there's a hard limit to stats individually or as a whole.

I'll keep an eye on Serebii and Bulbapedia, though, as I'm interested to know that myself.

Sounded like you were in the know already

As I said, I'm yet to even touch any of the candy options.

Just arrived at Lavender Town and it’s really awesome how it transform just exactly the same as the originals, but with so much better graphics.

Zippy Zap - a move taught by a somebody in the Poke Centre. It’s really powerful and I say 99% to knock them out! :o

Wait, was that move taught by the circus performer looking guy? I skipped that but is it worth getting then?

Just arrived at Vermillion City and finally got my squirtle! Level him up a bit to evolve him so my team now looks like

Pikachu
Wartortle
Charmilion
Ivysaur
Pidgetto
Geodude

I’m happy to stick with the top 5 ‘mons for the rest of the game but I want to eventually replace Geodude with either a ghost type or something.

Yes, that’s it. The circus performer and I would say yes. It is also pretty cool to see how Pikachu performs in the battle.

Just arrived at Lavender Town myself and my team is currently:

Blastoise
Charizard
Venusaur
Eevee
Nidorino
Gyarados

I have to say I do actually really like the wild encounters. More than I thought I would actually! Really enjoy doing catch chains for exp and finding strong pokemon.

Does anyone know what the endgame is like in this? Or if there's any compatibility with the other games (like transfering to Pokémon Bank etc)..

I've put loads of hours into the handheld games and amassed a big collection. Ideally this game wouldn't be stand-alone or only connected to Go (which I don't really play anymore since that purple patch when it was released).

Likewise, I'd quite like there to be a decent endgame, maybe a few rarer monsters in there (sort of like how the Ruby/Sapphire remakes had a few legendaries to catch after you'd done the base game stuff). And by that I don't mean the birds and Mewtwo.

I'll still get it anyway, though I am playing White 2 at the moment so not sure how good an idea this is...

Have also just reached Lavender Town - around 8 hours in.

Would anyone with Pikachu version like to do some link traders for the version exclusives (Oddish, Sandshrew, Growlithe, Sycther, Mankey) and trade evos (Haunter, Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler)?

The nostalgia is immense with this one. I just caught my first wild starter, and even though it’s my least favourite of the bunch I lit up like a Christmas tree. :msgreen:

I would do but I've not bought the Switch online yet take it that's needed for trading?

Following a wander through some mountain caves, I defeated the Rocket League twins last night... *just*. My Poke-team suffered from several faints but we managed to hold on for the victory! I gotta get better at knowing which type of Pokemon to use against other types; I sent out a few and their attacks did little against the opposition.

Still really enjoying the game: it has a good vibe.
