I always see posts on Twitter saying how the 3D models are HD ready already due to their high poly count and having watched a few vids of the games on HD emulators I can believe them, they're pretty decent as is so I don't think they need a load more work.

If it is going to be a remake of Yellow I hope we can still get gifted a Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, was a really nice basis for a team (if a little boring). Not sure which version I'd go for at this stage, Pikachu looking more likely if they can't be evolved but eventually I'd like to experience the game with both. Hopefully they'll be nice and allow you to spend a few quid to unlock the other option (if indeed it is locked to one version) rather than having to buy the full game again (which I'd probably do anyway if it came to it).

I think we'll have to wait and see just what it is before saying how many people are going to be disappointed by it or not. Don't see a reveal happening till next week now, unless they just drop it on YouTube with no notice which would be ideal.

I'm not sold on this Yellow remake idea, especially the Go integration bit. Just doesn't tickle my fancy particularly. I was hoping that with the innovation shown in BotW and Odyssey, Pokemon would try and follow suit on the Switch and shake up the formula a bit, which a remake doesn't exactly lend itself to.

Pokemon being present in the game world rather than random encounters is something that interests me though. Lends itself to a greater emphasis on exploration, if for example certain rare Pokemon are only found in one particular hidden area. Again though that would suit a new, more open and expansive region than a remade Kanto.

One thing to consider is that Nintendo need a themed Switch with a pack in game for the Christmas market. The Super Mario Odyssey bundle did huge numbers last year, particularly around Black Friday. I don't think Super Smash Bros is that kind of game. So I reckon Pokemon with Pikachu themed joy-cons is going to be this year's model and released in time for Black Friday. At least I'm hoping it is because that's one less Christmas present I need to think about.

Pokémon would be a much easier sell as a tie in pack rather than the other big hitting title in Smash Bros this year.

Well we're definitely not getting an announcement till next week by the looks of it, don't see it coming at this time just before the weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the reveal pushed forward now after these rumours and leaks. It's circulated enough now to the point we're just waiting for a reveal or confirmation.

I thought we might have had an earlier reveal, as the website domain names do seem solid evidence that these may be the next games.

Oh well, still plenty of time left in May to get a reveal.

It's worth bearing in mind game freak aren't Nintendo and they aren't obliged to work under the same company incentive of reimagination Nintendo showed with Zelda for example. (not so sure that was actually the case with oddysey, tbh that was more the case with the Galaxy games than anything else).

Also I do think the models are already up to par because that was the main reason Pokemon on 3ds took a little while to appear and the rest of the game wasn't up to much, apparently a huge amount of development time was spent just updating all the Pokemon. This also explains why the framerate is so bad during battles and no 3D in X/Y because the models are higher poly than they probably need to be. So hopefully they can spend more time on other aspects of the game. I think the viewpoint and sweeping camera was OK in my opinion but it would be amazing to have something more 3D RPGish in the vein of Ni No Kuni something we should have seen years ago.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Serebii tweeting about a Japanese variety show having some Pokemon news to talk about on the 31st of May....

Might this finally be the news we've been waiting for? Or just another bout of Pokemon related news away from the upcoming Switch games? Does seem slightly odd they've changed the description of the program, maybe not wanting to give too much away?

Leaving it till the last day of the month huh? With the information changed on the site, I'm still keeping tempered expectations.

Bet it'll just be an announcement of the new anime.

There's definitely something in the announcement works regarding the new games. That TV show always says it has 'exclusive' looks at the games that are usually nothing of the sort. The only reason Dusk Lycanroc was revealed on the show was because an episode of the anime [I think it was the very next one] would feature it and I don't think the Ultra games had been announced yet.
It's definitely going to be an international reveal. Tomorrow's looking likely if that show airs on Thursday morning.

Yeah that's the feeling I'm getting reading Resetera (who seem to have collectively lost their minds due to the lack of Pokemon news) that if it indeed is the games it pretty much has to be announced tomorrow (unless this Japanese show does actually have the very first look at it, or its just not to do with the Switch game).

I think it's going to be announced to disappointment everywhere tomorrow, because it's going to be a Go inspired stop gap before generation 9 arrives in 2019.

There's this going around now about how the announcement will follow after a media event in Japan happening 10:00 JST. The event is 90 minutes long.
Are they covering both Let's Go! and the 2019 games? Or is this just going to be a lot of talk with little action?

So, if that's true we should be waking up to some news in the morning.....

If that latest info is true then it does sound like we could be getting a gen 7.5 game this year before fully moving onto gen 8 from 2019. That's how I interpret the more exciting game coming in 2019 despite 2 games coming this year (Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee?).

It looks like at its core there's a solid remake of Yellow there. The environments look really nice and I like that there are Pokemon visible in the world. I also like the Pokemon Stadium style battle animations.

It's a remake, but I can't accuse Game Freak of being lazy, because it's clearly not -- even from brief glimpses of gameplay it's apparent the polish of content there is high. I will accuse them of being unambitious. Outside of the ultra hardcore (who might be a bit disappointed, but will buy it anyway) this is an extremely safe first Switch game. It's Yellow + Go. Except the HD graphics, is there anything new there? Seems like a step back after Sun & Moon boldly shook up the formula.

I cannot think of anything less appealing than the Go tie-in features. Amusingly I think I spotted a reference to Magikarp Jump as well. But I guess every modern Pokemon game has its cringey tacked-on gimmicks and I've managed to ignore them all so far, so hopefully it won't be too invasive and I can just enjoy HD Yellow.

Maybe they're using this as a remake of gen 1 but also testing the waters for the full new game next year?
