So does it get any harder or is everybody just absolutely breezing through it?

I'm considering picking it up but the changes they've made, along with the apparent lack of challenge are putting me off a bit. Thinking I might wait for the "proper" Pokémon game to arrive.

I had no idea the Pokeball Plus was a full substitute for a joycon (at least, for Pokemon)! It's got a stick and (two) buttons and everything :o

It's not the walk in the park some would have you believe. There's definitely a level of challenge that scales nicely, but in the end it depends on how much catching and chaining you get up to before taking on the big milestone events [namely Gyms].

Have to say, the battles in the wild aren't particularly missed by me. There are plenty of NPC battles to make up for it and it streamlines a lot of the game. I can see why die hards would miss it though. That could be fixed reasonably well with a gameplus hard mode I suspect, although there is no chance that will happen.

Anyway, I bought this as a present for my 5 year old as his birthday is on Wednesday. Had to test it out to make sure there were no day one patches and that the cartridge wasn't faulty. At least, that's what I have told my wife.

So after about 40 mins, that's it for me until at least Wednesday, but I enjoyed what I played and it feels like a slightly streamlined pokemon game, which as a working dad is about all I can manage these days with RDR2 on the go.

First Impressions of the game.
All I can say as a brief summary is that just because the catching mechanics are different shouldn't mean the games should be shunned. These two are as close to the main series as you can get, and all the mechanics work.

It’s great so far and everything looks prettier. Poke Ball is a great thing to use but I think I need to get use to it.

Don’t forget to get a gift from Poke Ball to get Mew. :D

I'm resetting for a male Pikachu, just don't like the heart shape on the female one. 3 so far and all female though.....

Edit, gender is chosen in the very opening cutscene (when your respective partner jumps out the TV), deleted my data so I could get a male one all for a slightly better tail

Put an hour into this so far and just reach Pewter City. It looks really nice but it is quite easy right now. I am hoping the challenge ramps up later on. I am liking it though, I much prefer the lack of wild Pokemon battles and the catching mechanic seems fine to me (playing in handheld mode though)

Be interesting to see if they take any of the ideas from this for the next core game

What's your team going to be then?

I'm in Viridian Forest, quite enjoying the Go style catching and not really missing the wild battles yet.

Just a question to ask.

Does anybody know that I can get three starters like Pokemon Yellow?

Cheers.

Do the people on Team Eevee realise that your starter can't evolve?

So far I've got Pikachu and Nidorian (male), also have my Mew from my Poké ball plus on me but I'm not planning on keeping it on my team. Not sure who else to go for really.

Yep, same locations as well. Just need to have caught plenty of Pokémon.

I am bitterly aware of that.

My kids are getting the Pikachu edition so I took one for the team.

I've got as far as Pewter City. I have to say it's been very easy so far. I think the Mew you get as a gift must count as a trade because mine seems to be leveling up very quickly.

Can't get my Pokeball Plus to sync with Go! :?

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

The local multiplayer is a bit disappointing.

I did Pewter gym before calling it a night, seemed like a nice place to stop for the day.

After 2 hours with it I'm really enjoying it, certainly on the easier side so far though, Pikachu is just wrecking everything currently
