Hopefully these games are less derivative than the leaks are painting them as. Kanto as a region is pretty uninteresting and people who were only fans of the originals have been pandered to a lot in the series history.

Website domains seem to have been registered by Nintendo with the leaked names.

Announcement imminent by the looks of it.

The pokemon games on 3ds are pretty lackluster. Gen 4 was probably the peak for me since it added the much needed physical/special split. But all in all, the series in general is just 'what gooseberry fool can we add on top of the pile of gooseberry fool we added last gen?' without any real thought into balance or how all these mechanics work with each other.

Encorougingly for Switch they've been talking about changing a lot of stuff. I personally think the series needs a brand new start, fresh new mechanics and core gameplay. Maybe even veto like half the pokemon lol

Will it be a Direct or a simple upload on Youtube? They could announce a Direct today for either tomorrow or Friday, to hype people up, but I think a surprise announcement might also work this time. They never seem to really do much in these 'mon Directs except hype people further, so it just works out as hyping people for more hype.
Hypeception?

It's normally their own Direct isn't it? Not sure if its live or essentially a linked video on YouTube mind. I have the feeling its just a recorded video put onto YouTube but could be wrong. Hopefully with the domain names being registered we could hear about an announcement soon, seem to recall it was a similar story with Ultra Sun/Moon wasn't it?

If it's a full on Yellow remake I can see them keeping it the the original 151 prior to beating the elite 4.

I could see a reboot of the original game, really don't know what to make of these leaks.
Would imagine Nintendo would do a mini-direct or just drop a trailer on Youtube to announce it.

There's English logos going around now if anyone can find them. The English trademarks have been registered.

Not seen any English logos doing the rounds yet, if they're like the Japanese logos I think they look alright (well they look like drawings of the supposed logos for the rumoured games, but still), I reckon we'll still get the classic Pokémon logo we've got since they first came out. I would like a change though.

Just realised that the titles of the games are referring to Red and Blue >,> The leak suggested we would be following the story of these trainers in some way so it's actually a clever title the more I think about it.

I quite like the titles, if it is a Yellow remake they certainly fit nicely.

Looking at the ResetEra thread most people want an open world reboot similar to BOTW.

I'd be inclined to agree.

The Switch is a good a time as any to make major changes to the formula, I don't see them taking any huge risks with their first Switch game though. Seen a few people on other forums saying it'll be more akin to a Gen 7.5 game rather than a full fat Gen 8 title. If that leaked screenshot does turn out to be true we could basically be getting a much nicer looking version of the US/UM games but set in Kanto which would kind of align with people saying Gen 7.5 and not 8. If they make some changes to it that'll be the norm from Gen 8 onwards (such as catchable Pokémon actually appearing in the over world rather than random encounters, maybe the option of mimicking throwing a Poke ball with a joycon to start the capture process, although this would have to be optional to allow for the varying playstyles available with the Switch). Heck if GameFreak really wanted to please every camp they'd release one version on the Switch and the other on the 3DS and give the player the choice of who to start the game with (as I'm still thinking you'll be locked into one starter Pokémon version dependant), hopefully this won't be the case though although again it would make that supposed leaked screenshot slightly more believable as they'd obviously want both titles to look similar with the Switch just being a much nicer looking version of the 3DS game.

Hopefully it's a brand new engine and a brand new generation to kick start off the series on the Switch, not that I wouldn't pre order a remake of Yellow in a HD US/UM style that is!

Just wondering when we can realistically expect an announcement now, last time this kind of leak happened (domain names being registered etc) with Sun/Moon they announced them the next day didn't they? Got me hoping it'll be sooner rather than later :)

Yeah that one, a lot of people were sceptical when it was first leaked but it does seem to match up a little with the latest rumours of the games being Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee as you can just about make out an Eevee perched on the trainers shoulder/head. I have seen some posters elsewhere say it kind of looks like the route between Pallet and Cinnibar island although it could be photo-shopped.

Maybe it's the awkward angle and low resolution, but that screenshot looks terrible. I'd expect a game to look better than that on the Switch unless it was coming from a small Indie studio.

Yeah it is an awful photo but it does have some elements not seen in recent games, Pokémon seemingly in the environment nearby the player (so possibly ready to battle and catch?), hopefully its not a fully accurate representation of the new games and if we do end up with a style similar to US/UM then it'll look a lot nicer than that screenshot as the Switch is obviously capable of so much more.

For what names?

I can't make out from this thread whether it's Go Red/Blue or Go Pikachu/Eevee

That screenshot still looks very much to have 2D area designs :(

Sounds like Nintendo are pushing them to get a Pokemon game on to their new format ASAP, similar to what they did with X & Y.

GameFreak were then given time to work on Sun & Moon which turned out to be what people really expected of a 3DS Pokemon game.

Yeah just bear in mind that screenshot was leaked from a while ago OR and obviously not confirmed in any way shape or form! Hopefully it'll be more 3D than that when we finally see it :)

Most likely names currently seem to be Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee based on what domain names have been registered.

I want a Pokemon built from the ground up and looking as polished as Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey.

Not some upscaled 3DS engine that's had a bit of tweaking to stretch it to its limits.
