Just arrived on the second island last night, played about 7 hours and really enjoying it still.

Squad are between Level 17-21 and I have the following;

Torracat
Trumbeak
Pichu
Munchlax
Slowpoke
Kadabra

Not finding it overly difficult so far but its been a refreshing change of pace from the old formula. Only thing I'm really disliking is the 'call for help' aspect, can be useful if you accidentally defeat a pokemon you wanted to catch but generally when I'm trying to get a battle over quickly I just find it more annoying than anything else!

Why do you have Kadabra and Slowpoke? aren't both Psychic, with Slowpoke being Water also.

Mostly because at the moment Kadabra has no offensive moves so he's basically useless in battle, I've just been levelling him up with exp share. Slowpoke has the benefit of being the best water pokemon I've come across, plus he can take a fair amount of damage and actually has some offensive psychic moves. I won't be keeping both of them in my party long term, I'd imagine I'll probably hold onto Kadabra (And try to trade so he evolves into Alakazam at some point) and replace Slowpoke with Ash's Greninja when I am at a point in the game where he'll obey me.

That's a crazy good launch. I'm looking forward to grabbing Sun when I've finished writing a thesis draft - no chance I'm buying a life sucking game like Pokemon when I have actual IRL work to finish

I wonder when they are updating Pokemon Bank for connectivity with the VC titles. I haven't even played through Yellow yet.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon from X/Y/ORAS also can't be uploaded till the new update rolls around.

Hopefully it brings some online fixes, maybe auto-online from the overworld and notifications when a friend enters the festival plaza.

X/Y had online sorted out, even had voice chat (with friends and randoms)... weird they took it out and made it worse.

Pokemons calling for help is by far the worst thing in this game. It got to be ULTRA ANNOYING in the meadow when I was trying to catch a Metapod: each time one was downed the remaining 'pod called in back up. I was impressed at how another 'mon always had its back   But holy floop did it get annoying fast. I must have bested four or five sets of the buggers, and in the end I ended up having to peg it :slol: :| But not before that failed three or four times.

Haven't really settled on a team yet, just a bunch of fill ins. Want more new Pokemon to use. Seem to have a team mostly full of old ones.

I preferred the way Black/White was. All new Pokemon, old Pokemon in the post game.

It got better. 3.5m sold in a week, and that's just Japan and Europe! Incredible numbers

At the moment my team is;

Popplio
Pichu
Abra
Munchlax
Grubbin
Slowpoke (will be switching out with Ghastly soon)

Yeah, it's about the only thing in this game I'm not enjoying so far but damn does it drive me mad! They should have a restriction on the amount of times they can call for help just to make it more reasonable.

This is alright actually. I found the bigger 3d environments very confusing from the little Alpha Sapphire I played but this pokedex map thing is a very useful feature to get rid of that issue.

Its quite fun to be playing and not know the optimal strategies and evolution levels and stuff. The pokemon Im seeing are generally alright designs as well which is a surprise. Some of the dialogue is very amusing, some of it just for the pure strangeness of it.

Baddies are funny, I hope it doesnt take some super serious world destruction twist.

Only just finished the first trial and my team is (I think)

Growlithe
Magnemite
Grubbin
Slowpoke
Munchlax
Litten (Getting rid as soon as it evolves)

Im looking at it through the perspective of how it would play for a 7 year old new to games and Im not convinced yet. A lot is very hand-holdy for an adult but a lot is left with lots of avenue for confusion as a child. We'll see how it goes at christmas I suppose.

I was 7 when I got Pokemon Blue/GameBoy for my birthday and didn't have a problem with it. Honestly, the stage Pokemon is at nowadays its likely the kid would still be discovering things months/years after starting.

In terms of progress im on the last island now , 33 hours in - most of my 'mons are LVL 35's or so with a team of:

CURRENT TEAM
Sandman - sandygast
Dr Doom - mismagius (god i hate how it looks, suffered for THE POWAH)
Okala - alolan vulpix (how do i evolve?)
Captain Gonk - bastiodon
Olive - araquinid
Gnasher - zygarde 10%

BOXED TEAM
Snorlax, Tsareena, Decidueye, alolan Raichu, Gengar, Drifblim and Espeon (really wanted a Sylveon), Greninja

whats weird is every playthrough of a pokemon game i always have an espeon, a gengar and a drifblim usually. i love ghosts.

anyone wanna trade or battle? hit me up, always down

Yeah, that was awesome - though due to the lower no. of pokemon that wouldnt be feasable in this game. I do wish there was more pokemon, i heard theres only about ~400 from the available ~900. Seriousely, just stick in zigzagoon, bidoof and sentret in route 1 too, stuff like that. I feel XY had more of a variety.

Finished off the 1st island, just running round catching stuff now before I move on.

Current team;

Brionne Level 20
Makuhita Level 19
Magnemite Level 18
Growlithe Level 18
Bagon Level 12
Rockruff Level 12

Going to try and get Bagon and Rockruff up a few more levels before I move on!

Exposure to an Ice Stone. Unfortunately the Ice Stone is located in the Snowy Mountain area at the end of the story campaign, so unless you're near there you'll be stuck with Vulpix for a while. Crabrawler also evolves like this, which was frustrating for me as he was a big player in my team but hampered by poor unevolved stats.

Beat this btw, am Champion. strawberry float me that last fight gave me a hard time though, can't remember the last time a Pokemon gave me such a tough ride.

Beat the 1st trial last night...seemed a little easy.

Ended up switching my Slowpoke out for Growlithe to have some Fire Support.

My Grubbin is becoming a beast at the moment, he's got max affection so gets boosted XP.

Not sure whether it's a bug or a change for Sun but once my Abra evolved into Kadabra I didn't learn any moves. So it's still sat with Teleport :fp:

Yeah am finally on the last island, Poni Island so Ive got myself that ice stone - think i also found one in poke pelago... certainly found loads of dusk stones and stuff that way. Ive put my lvl27 wishiwashi back in the party, he was one of the OG's and I cant leave him behind - i hope he gets good moves and stats... i feel like his ability is in the way of a good evolution
