Julian Assange is to launch legal action against the government of Ecuador, accusing it of violating his "fundamental rights and freedoms".

The Wikileaks co-founder has lived in its UK embassy since 2012 after seeking asylum to avoid extradition to Sweden over a rape claim - later dropped.

He was given a set of house rules by the London embassy this week, including taking better care of his cat.

In a memo, it threatened to confiscate the pet if he did not look after it.

I'm surprised he didn't pull out of the conference himself after hearing Nicola Sturgeon had planned on showing up. :slol:

I used to be proud of the BBC.

Now I'm just ashamed.

Steve Bannon was actually invited by the event organisers, the European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) News Xchange committee. The News Xchange itself is an annual EBU journalism conference which various broadcasters are in support of, of which the BBC Scotland editor will be the one on stage asking the questions. The Ferret headline is disingenuous.

The EBU BTW produce, amongst other things, the Eurovision Song Contest.

Tory MPs imagining 'knifing' of PM told to remember Jo Cox murder
Many MPs express outrage and say those who use "violent language" towards Theresa May should be publicly named.

At the weekend, amid fresh concerns at Theresa May's Brexit negotiating strategy, unnamed Conservatives told Sunday newspapers the prime minister is entering "the killing zone" and "assassination is in the air".

One former minister said: "The moment is coming when the knife gets heated, stuck in her front and twisted. She'll be dead soon."

In addition, Mrs May was told by one anonymous Brexiteer to "bring her own noose" to a crunch meeting with MPs on Wednesday.

Well to be fair, she should bring her own noose, it's not up to the public to fund any execution paraphernalia. And she's definitely got one in her sex dungeon, just needs to give it a wipe and it'll be fine.

Is that the one under Downing St?

I heard Cameron was a really big fan of it, and would often be seen heading down there with packets of bacon.

My idiotic Labour council, who recently changed the bins, have been issuing the following to some residents:

”Having listened to the concerns of residents, we have agreed with our contractor Veolia that there are a considerable number of properties that are not suitable for the new bins.

We will therefore be removing the new bins from all properties on the street and you will be able to use your bin/boxes as previously.

We realise that there will have been many people who were looking forward to the new bins [WHAT strawberry floating HORSE gooseberry fool], so want to apologise for the inconvenience, however, from an operational perspective, the number of properties that would have required an alternative solution would have made it extremely difficult to continue.”

Residents in Lakehall Gardens, Thornton Heath, say their bins have only been emptied twice in the last seven weeks, with missed collections a widespread issue since the new bins were introduced.

Dustmen have told residents they’ve struggled to access the cul-de-sac due to parked cars and have even had difficulty in carrying the new, larger bins to their lorries.

It’s a level of incompetence and sheer ‘we know best’ arrogance that defies belief. It’s The Apprentice.

Saudi Arabia are a complete bunch of gooseberry fools and the spotlight should remain on them for what they've recently done. But has anyone explained why, if it is true that Turkey had the embassy/consulate/whateverthefuck bugged, they then didn't warn Khashoggi of what he was possibly walking in to?

I am not sure that Turkey has said that they have the consulate bugged? I thought all of their evidence came from CCTV outside and from the subsequent investigation.

Assuming that they had bugged it (and they probably have!) I guess it is possible that they did warn him and he didn't take it seriously. Or maybe the Turkish authorities didn't want to tell a journalist that they had illegally bugged another nations consulate?

Of course Turkey wouldn't admit to the bugging, but I'd still like to see reporters and journalists putting the question out there even if it's just for the viewer to absorb on the news. My guess is they won't because it would introduce a new talking point and they'd rather concentrate on just one thing for now.

The suspected bugging angle I heard on 5 Live a couple of days after the incident, but there's also this:

On Wednesday, three people familiar with the investigation told NBC News that Turkish officials had told the U.S. that Turkey had listening devices inside the Saudi consulate, giving the Turks at least some insight into what transpired inside

edit: my point being I don't want Erdogan getting a pass on this.
