A Jewish Labour MP has said the moment she found out she faced investigation for confronting Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism made her think about "what it felt like to be a Jew in Germany in the 30s".
Did the BBC cover this today? Can't find it on their site.
Edit: it wasn't on BBC News on TV either. What's changed? They were all over the Labour antisemitism row.
Seen as a Sky News exclusive interview not worthy of another day’s coverage, would be my presumption. It doesn’t add anything new to something that has already dominated the news agenda day after day.

I wonder if that decision to not report the Hodge story was helped by Margaret Hodge's daughter Lizzi Watson apparently being deputy editor at BBC News?
I'm sick of hearing about alleged anti-semitism in the Labour Party, obviously its unacceptable if it is genuine hatred towards the Jewish community but when seemingly any criticism aimed towards a jewish person is classed as anti-semitic then it has the effect of making genuine cases go unchallenged.
As a product tester myself, the manufacturer should have put “inspired” on the packet. Could have used “style” or “influenced” as well. Maybe they have on the back.
Barely any pizzas in the world bear much resemblance to their Italian counterpart but they’ll still be marketed as such.
McDonalds brand Great Tastes of America as being different burgers from different States, and Great Tastes of the World, despite barely having anything to do with their namesakes.
You have a South Carolina mustard in the supermarket that has never been anywhere near Carolina, let alone America.
I get that it’s annoying that rich western people/companies take something and strawberry float it up. Jerk rice is not a thing, it’s Peshawar not peshwari. It’s like a Chinese chef marketing mass produced “Worcestershire vinegar” instead of Worcestershire sauce, a “Cornish sandwich” instead of Cornish pasty or a “scotch cheeseball“ instead of a scotch egg. We would all either laugh or be pissed off that they got it so wrong.
Claims of cultural appropriation are silly though. It’s food, so strawberry floating what if the name has been mangled by idiots/companies.
If a Chinese company produced 'Worcestershire Vinegar' I would feel total and utter indifference. And I'm from Worcestershire. Who on earth gets riled up about these things?

How can Levi Root's stuff be cultural appropriation when the guy is Jamaican? He was born in Jamaica, he lived there until he was 11. Surely you can't appropriate your own culture.

We’re talking about Jaimie Oliver not Levi Roots. Dawn Butler was saying Levi should do a masterclass to educate Jaimie Oliver.
Many dishes are altered to reflect the local palate and lack authenticity.
If you’re only now getting angry about U.K. curry bearing strawberry float all resemblance to Indian cooking then where the hell have you been the past 60 years.

Would depend if he’s created something for the U.K. marketplace that bears no resemblance to its country of origin. He once had a Levi Roots Italian Pizza, and has just launched Levi Roots Rasta Pasta, Reggae Reggae Instant Noodles and Levi’s Curry.

They weren’t the best examples, I was thinking quickly.
My point is that most people wouldn’t care if China were mangling our dishes or the names of the dishes. But plenty of people would laugh (remember all the “Engrish” memes?) and plenty would be furious.
Now imagine the rage if we were not the dominant culture and China was mangling dishes that we were proud of. Again most wouldn’t care, but plenty of people would.
Claiming cultural appropriation is silly, but I can understand why somebody would call Jamie Oliver a strawberry floating idiot for flogging jerk rice. It’s not a thing that really exists.

I think she's saying Levi Roots can literally teach Jamie Oliver a thing or two about Jamaican cuisine.
I don't think it's silly to suggest British companies taking world cuisine and clumsily repackaging it to suggest an incorrect authenticity of an 'exotic' culture is appropriation of that culture, particularly when it connects to ethnic minorities/communities living within the UK. The clumsiness or laziness speaks to a dominant culture that doesn't need to properly take the time to consider its actions surrounding re-purposing elements of other, non-dominant cultures.
I am again reminded of this good thread on Twitter about sensitivities around cultural appropriation, and how being sensitive and careful in using those elements can reduce the potential ire of anyone who might be annoyed.

This is the third time he's been called out for this kind of stuff. You'd think he'd start to do some research.

So basically the issue is that 'jerk' is a cooking technique where you rub hot sauce onto meat or fish as rice isn't a type of fish or meat you can't jerk it. So the rice should be Jamacian Style Rice.

The issue is more that Dawn Butler thinks Jamie Oliver is a banana split.
Does Jamie Oliver actually support UKIP or is Butler just a complete moron? He’s been outspoken in support of staying in the EU so I can’t see why you’d then also be pro UKIP.
