Sargon is a gamergater IIRC. Although I can’t revall if he’s a ‘true believer’ or just someone who capitalised on it.

Edit - Speaking of Gamegate. I assume this is best place for this (couldn’t find a GG thread) but if not someone point me in right direction

Blizzard have announced a tribute bundle for TB to raise money for his family.

https://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/09/10 ... ve-bundle/

Reactions have been mixed. Strong, but mixed

There's an interesting history there. TB was a tool on the wider Internet, but was very well-liked in the StarCraft community - and I guess by industry people and so on - because of his contributions to that scene.

Sargon is a white nationalist who maintains a paper-thin veneer of respectability by dressing up his beliefs as "asking questions" and "free speech" so forth. Dankula is this kind of right-leaning edgelord comedian who likes to "trigger the SJWs".

Yeah I didn't really know how to feel. I know he did loads for SC2 (but I've also never been close enough to know how he's viewed "in community" - but also he did some horrible stuff.
And it's also to help his family financially (which is another story).
It made me feel "Hmm" which is why I meant to post it and see what others thought (but forgot)

Edit - Found the actual thread in Games, so moved there :)

It's OK, let's just move on now.

There's been some interesting politics posted here over the last couple days. We've had Cora's nihilism about power structures ( :( ), Sports Direct ripping off House of Fraser customers, Sajid Javid's surprising popularity, my & OR's apologism for communism (UNDER THE BANNER OF KARL), edgy alt-right YouTubers speaking out on Article 13 (is a stopped clock right twice a day???), etc. Let's chat about some of that.

I'll be honest, Karl, your post is massive ( :datass: ) and I'm holding an 8 week old baby so I'll give it the proper attention it deserves when I get to work tomorrow :slol:

Sure thing, no worries! No rush/pressure.

Turns out it was only a long-looking post because I was looking at it on my phone  :fp:

You raise some interesting points, but the hypernormalisation/real politik part of my brain just can't ever envisage anything really changing. I guess we'll have to freeze ourselves and see what it's like in 300 years.

I’m only basing my nihilism on 11 years of studying political science and history, don’t worry Karl. :slol:

To make a fairly serious post, I'd say that the external factors causing failure are just as, if not more important than anything else. Communism, and any extreme form of socialism, doesn't work because there are inherently greedy and territorial human beings all around the world, who will use the ideology to their own ends in some way or another. I'd also say that some sort of power structure is largely necessary to maintain order, which by definition means that the few will always have power over the many, even if they are empowered by the people.

It's depressing, really.

My thoughts tend to be that capitalism is aggressive, expansionist and self-correcting, where wealth disparity drives further wealth disparity in a kind of positive feedback loop. Equal wealth distribution through extreme socialism on the other hand is passive (there is no reliance on growth driving expansion) and exists at an unstable equilibrium - any disparity in wealth requires active corrective action otherwise it will exacerbate. It's the darwinian approach to understanding why capitalism rules the world!

brb I'm gonna write a sci-fi short story about the conflict between capitalist space colonies at the stable lagrange points and communist space colonies at the unstable ones.
