The last poll I saw Labour were slightly ahead.

With the worst government in living memory though, that is not much of an honour. Labour should be miles ahead of this shower of shite.

But if this keeps up we might end up with a Corbyn lead government.

Good thing you can vote for your local Labour candidate instead.

A left wing Labour party won its highest number of voters and highest vote share since 1997 last year?

In what way is it sensible to see that electoral loss as a failure of left wing policies that requires a lurch back to the centre and the results of 2005 and 2010?

Labour have (to use a phrase once used to describe another party) been taken over by fruitcakes, loonies, and closet racists, and as such, are completely unelectable.

How so?

It’s true that Corbyn did very well at the last election. “Corbynmania” was part of it, but I think the biggest reason was people voting against the Tories rather than voting for Labour.

Politics is hard to predict at the best of times and at the moment it is next to impossible. But I don’t think Labour will return to government while Corbyn is leader. And that is appalling when you look at who they are up against, they should be wiping the floor with May’s Conservative party.

I too would like to know this

Yes Labour need to do more to tackle antisemitism within their party but the idea it's mandated from the top is ludicrous. As is the idea that it's more prevalent than islamaphobia is within the Conservative party which essentially policy at this point

I don't like Corbyn's position on Brexit, but not voting for him is voting for the Conservatives. And if you say you therefore can't vote for him based on moral principles, how is it possible those same principles allow you to enable the current vicious Tory government?

Tory islamophobia is not an answer to Labour antisemitism. We all know the Tories are a horrible bunch of banana splits, Labour need to respond to their issues rather than just pointing at the Tories all the time. I agree that there are more racists amongst the Tory party than the Labour party, but wouldn’t it be nice if there were none in Labour?

You say we “enable” the vicious Tory government but the problem for most of us is that we don’t like Labour or the Conservatives. And nobody else can win. So we either have to hold our noses and vote for Corbyn’s party, or waste a vote on the likes of the Lib Dems or Greens. What a brilliant choice.

I’d prefer Corbyn as PM to May as PM but I’d also prefer to have AIDS to cancer.

I agree with parts of that. Fruitcakes, loonies and unelectable sound right.

I don’t agree that they’ve been taken over by racists (closet or open), but they need to sort out the antisemitism amongst the party members.

And they need to stop laying wreaths on Black September graves. ;)

I don't disagree that they need to sort that out.

I was hoping Vermilion would respond. His suggestion that Labour are "unelectable" is grand hypocrisy if he believes that the Conservatives are in any way electable by comparison.

My point is that these issues are picked and chosen based on how they fit existing views and not considered objectively. If you think Labour are unelectable because of antisemitism but vote for the Conservatives, you don't really care about antisemitism. Or any form of bigotry or intolerance. You just want to paint a picture of moral fortitude for others so you can pretend you've justified voting to line your own pockets while those less fortunate than you continue to suffer.

And the reality is that we have a two party system, like it or not, so unless you disengage you're essentially picking one. Sure, it might be a choice of bad vs much much worse, but when it impacts upon people's lives and you have the power to do something about it - even if that power is tiny and vote sized - you still need to do the right thing.

There is a huge difference between racism in the Labour party and racism in the Conservatives - we all expect more from Labour.
