Although it's died down now, all that talk about replacing Sunak with Mordaunt... Did anybody stop to wonder if she'd even want to take that poisoned chalice?!

I think the idea was she'd call a GE immediately and then if/when they lost, she'd spearhead the rebuild phase.

Still, who'd willingly be the figurehead of the predicted decimation? I can see her taking the job after the election.

She could be PM for 100 days (beating Truss), ensuring a lifetime of lucrative speaking engagements.

Or she could be leader of the opposition (assuming they don't end up 3rd), with a handful of MPs and a very real chance of being deposed as leader at any point, but almost certainly when they also lose the 2029 election.

I'd go for the PM title and ensure everyone knew it was Truss/Sunak that made it an impossible job. Which would actually be true.

Moggy admitting he’d like to be leader of the Conservatives, there.

I'd imagine Mordaunt as their pick if the focus is to capitalise on the weaknesses and mistakes of a Labour government.

What if Reform push towards 20% of the vote :dread: they'll probably be forced instead then to go for a Braverman or a Badenoch and become the Turbo Nazi Party.

I would! I'd run the banana splits so far into the ground that it'd make Truss look like the greatest PM the country ever had.

Even if Mordaunt was to be PM, with the Tory polling numbers, her constituency could flip to Labour. Would make for the ultimate Portillo Moment if the sitting PM wasn't even able to retain the seat.

Reform would have to steal the Lib Dems "only we can beat the Tories here" line (used even when it's a 3 way marginal!).

Crazy that it's something to even contemplate (Reform potentially polling above the Conservatives). FPTP would result in the Tories potentially being behind the Lib Dems and the SNP in numbers of MPs.

If this happens, the very day we'll have the MSM talking about PR.

With Labour less likely than ever to implement it and help out the Tories!

I dunno, if the media start talking about PR, Starmer might start wagging his tail...

Tory mayor contest ad showed New York instead of London

An advert in support of the Conservative's London mayoral candidate that featured scenes from New York instead of the capital has been deleted.

The clip, posted on the party's X (formerly Twitter) account, attacked London's incumbent Labour mayor, Sadiq Khan, and used footage of a stampede in a New York subway station, which Mr Khan criticised as "quite staggering".

The advert, in support of Susan Hall, was quickly removed and replaced with a video where the New York scenes had been cut.

Ms Hall's spokesperson said the video had been created by Conservative Party headquarters and not her campaign team.

Parody levels of incompetence from this candidate

That's pretty competent for her. Usually she's just ranting about being pickpocketed when she forgets to pick up her purse.

It’s always a good sign when you hear ministers’ names and think, Who?!
